Perfume is my weakness. Some people are visually oriented, some get turned on by sounds, but the way to my heart is through my nose. (How's that for a great image?) I'm angry, because the day after I returned from Vegas I learned that there's a store in the Venetian casino that sells about 500 different scents. That was my own paradise, and I missed it. |
I also like cool water. for girls. But perfume doesn't really Stick to me, so I don't wear it very often. If I did I'd have to re-apply it every hour. |
The neat thing about perfume that fades quickly is that it can still be detected if someone puts their nose right against your skin, so it's like a surprise for them. Which is rather alluring in its own way. On the "last book you read" board, someone mentioned the novel "Perfume" -- that's high erotica for us scent-oriented people. Just pages of descriptions of scents. Very very nice. |
and bodylines white musk. my friend jules is a purfume nutcase. every pay bottle of purfume. |

To this day, that stuff drives me crazy. |

Parfum de Hermes is the greatest. There was this french gal at this place I worked, and another gal from this woman's college sat near her and they were good friends and I noticed after a while they were wearing the same perfume - Parfum de Hermes. And this woman I used to have the hots for who didn't like me wore Coco. Coco is great. I wonder if I would've liked her as much if she didn't wear it. But they're both too expensive. You think that the companies are making like tons of cash off each purchase for something that costs them like diddly squat to make. Gucci Rush didn't smell too exciting at first but after a while you get this warm feeling all over... I probably know more about perfumes than any straight man I know. Calyx is nice. I was deliberating buying Calyx or Allure in the store, and the woman said "Allure is a dressier fragrance." I love that sort of bullshit. It's dressier in her demented little saleswoman-type mind. You can wear any kind of perfume anytime you want. And you should. I used to think Lauren was the tops. But its become sort of a cheap deal. I remember the first time I smelled it, I was working in this art supply store in New York and was just out of high school. This dressed up woman in a fur coat came in and was wearing it. It was two years before I was able to find out what it was. This Texan woman came into the Haagan Daz in Sante Fe, and she'd broken her heel. She walked by and I got a whiff and said, WOW!, that's it! I had the counter person ask her what perfume she was wearing while they were trying to fix her heel. Then I got my girlfriend some. But there are some trendy perfumes that I don't think are so great: Tresor, Poison. I wonder how much of the appeal of perfumes actually results from the advertising. Like how many woman buy one of the nearly a dozen Estee Lauder scents and think, "Oh, I smell like Elizabeth Hurley, I must be HOT!" I think the majority of men's colognes suck. Notable exceptions: Tuscany and Armani. But generally I'd rather wear women's perfume if people wouldn't get weirded out by it. Not enough women wear perfume. Sigh. |
The other day I was wearing some gap purfume (hate the gap - hate the gap clothes - like the gap purfume) and I went into work and someone say "You smell like Heaven!" She was right. |
right now I smell like cigarettes, probably my friends' camels. |
I recently found out about a brand of perfumes, lotions, etc. called Demeter. The scents are developed using something called chromatography or something like that, which is a process by which they ensure that the fragrance really and truly smells like what they want it to smell like. So Demeter has products that smell like leather and tomatoes and things like that. I heard they have something that smells like honeysuckle, and I'm dying to find it. Honeysuckle is probably my favorite scent in the known universe, and no perfumes or anything that attempt to smell like honeysuckle I've ever sniffed ever actually succeed. |
the only scent i've ever worn since i was 20 years old is good ol' rose oil. the best rose oil i ever found was at Tail of the Yak in Berkeley, but now i order it from this oil shop in Seattle. the good stuff is that which is not distilled with alcohol and is worth hunting down. |

on the perfume subject: i recently got a perfume called karma from this canadian company called lush. http://www.lushcanada.com it smells so good. i haven't worn perfume in about ten years, because i haven't found one that i liked until now. i used to wear gray flannel men's cologne in high school. i hate the smell of most department store perfume. |

job after we'd been going at it for a while, and she said all the customers were getting all frisky from smelling the sex on her. There's some lotion or perfume that smells like diaphragm jelly. Every time I smell it on someone I get confused and wonder if I'm smelling contraception or perfume. It smells sort of gross. You'd think they could come up with contraceptive cream that smells palatable and is even edible or something, y'know? |
|
mmm sandelwood is my fav tho |

Chanel Allure. Clarins something or other that's like a cologne type of thing and comes in a red bottle and is nice and light for day. My ex-boyfriend's Jazz when I'm missing him and am all sentimental for the smell of him against my tongue. It's hungry-making stuff. A perfume in a Salvador Dali designed bottle that someone with too much money bought me. And um...it's in a bottle shaped like a woman and it has a slight smell of watermelon. Actually it's my favourite right now. Men buy me perfume. I would rather plants. |
I wear Tom's of Maine Woodspice deodorant every day though. |
i heart lush. |
as you can see, i really like lush. still like it, in fact. |
my person hero. i used to wear cool water (?) but i don't spend my nights with the woman who bought it for me anymore. i have a big bottle of opium that some ex-roomate left in my house. i wear it when i want to feel slutty. |
Maybe it's a seasonal thing. |
especially roux et noir, which is probably regional and no one would have a chance of finding it. |
