By Spiral on Sunday, July 8, 2001 - 11:55 pm:

In the hopes of cheering myself from a poor mood (brought on by a very unhappy headache), I decided to go through some of the poetry I have written. This always makes me smile, so I thought I'd share:

    Your Secret

    Sparkling, twinkling, fascinating light
caught on a rainbow of river water
and fractured into pieces over the back
of a lost beaver looking for wood.

You twist and turn, the swing dance
of nature stepping softly above smooth
    rocks, once jagged and uncompromising,
    now eloquent in their submission.

    The water knows your touch,
as intimate as a fingertip caress
mapping out the contours of an eyebrow
or scar on a perfect face.

You play and tease with its surface,
a seductress of airy quality and silent joy.
But I know the truth that you would never
tell the ducks that float on your lover's facade.

For when the night cascades in on imperious breath,
and the animals all scatter to their homes
for safety and sleep, I see you peeking from behind a cloud,
to once more embrace your lover.

    "lost beaver looking for wood"

    hee hee hee hee!

By Spiral on Monday, July 9, 2001 - 10:39 am:

=) I'm glad someone saw that. I had a lot of fun writing that line.

By Spider on Monday, July 9, 2001 - 10:40 am:

    I like that, Spiral.

I don't have the guts to post any poems I've written that I'm serious about.

By Hal on Monday, July 9, 2001 - 12:55 pm:

I'm with Spider on this one.

By Cat on Monday, July 9, 2001 - 08:46 pm:

If we have to choose sides, I want to be on Czarina's team because she's got those speccy pirate costumes.

By Spiral on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 12:01 am:

Thanks. I don't (post/let others read) my stuff all that often, so it's good to hear what people think.

By Nate on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 03:51 am:

    i thought it sucked ass.

By Czarina on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 05:51 am:

    Fuck you,you ass.
Go to your room, and come out when you can behave.
I liked it.It made me feel nostalgic.
Everyone knows that a beaver is nothing without a
    stiff woody to gnaw on.

By Hal on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 10:29 am:

God damn Nate, I've always wanted the skill of being able to piss people off at a moments notice. I haven't learned from good teachers, would you teach me nate, Teach me all that you know.

By TBone on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 10:55 am:

I think you do a great job, Hal.

By Nate on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 11:23 am:

apparently being better than everyone else and assuming that everyone is like you is key.

"it's good to hear what people think"

that's what i was responding to. it's GOOD everyone. what i said was GOOD.

    ok?

OK GODDAMNIT? I'M NOT ABOUT TO TAKE ANYONE'S SHIT TODAY.

By patrick on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 11:45 am:

poetry is so damned personal most of the time, i just can't get into it.

i mean im sure its valuable to you spiral but i couldnt bring myself to read it...because id probably say something like nate said, so i skipped over it, but good job anyway.

somebody get the pokin' stick and a bag of nuts

By Nate on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 11:55 am:

i wasn't talking about the poetry. i didn't read it either.

except for the line that sem pointed out, which i liked.

By Czarina on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 11:57 am:

    Well,alright then.My apologies for misinterpreting
your "I thought it sucked ass",post.I was probably reading the punctuation wrong.

By heather on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 11:58 am:

whatever he was talking about, i'm suprised that you all forgot that 'it sucked ass' is nate's highest compliment

By patrick on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 12:51 pm:

i didnt read nates post. its gotten to where i see the reactions and know what he said.

whats it called (spider) when the brain, after seeing a pattern of say:
    xyzxyzxyzxyzxyz
long enough, and then you say...start taking out every 2nd Y
    xyzxzxyzxyxyzxyxyz
but your brain still sees it like the first line...fills in the blanks.

By Spider on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 12:54 pm:

    Ooh! It's called.......shit, I can't remember.

    Hold on.

By holding patty on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 01:09 pm:

    *holding*

By Spider on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 01:14 pm:

Damn poor memory recall for things I should remember. Ugh.

I've sent emails to my friends from my Cognitive Psych class. I'll let you know when I hear from them.

By Spiral on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 07:57 pm:

LMAO - I do not take my stuff seriously to worry about it when it sucks. I think the tern of which you speak is called Out-ofYour-Mind-Boredom.

By dave. on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 - 10:48 pm:

i'm told the indolent out-of-your-mind-boredom tern is making quite a comeback in north america while, ironically, it's close relative, the indefatigable more-fun-than-you-could-shake-a-stick-at tern is showing a dramatic decline in numbers.

By Spider on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 08:55 am:

Patrick, no one's come through for me yet. Anyway, it's probably called something dull like Substitution or something. Oh, well.

By patrick on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 11:28 am:

fuck the mrs. is a psych major, maybe i should aks her.
