To electrify my brain!

sorabji.com: What do you want?: To electrify my brain!
By Antigone on Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 08:29 pm:

I have all of the parts for a diy tDCS rig:

    1/2 watt 4.7k resistor
    9 volt battery
    Wires
    2 home made sponge electrodes

Soon I will try stimulating my right parietal lobe for
mathematical ability. Then an area of the right temporal lobe
associated with empathy. Sould be fun! Wish me luck!

By Antigone on Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 08:29 pm:

    Should.

By Dr Pepper on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 01:44 am:

Are you using this for shock therapy? try 120 Volts.

By Antigone on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 05:24 am:

Shock therapy is a crude form of tDCS. tDCS uses much
lower current levels for a longer period, and is more focused.

By Spider on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 10:14 am:

    Is this for real?

By Ms. Pepper on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 12:10 pm:

My goodness. It is cold outside!

By Ms. Pepper on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 12:12 pm:

Antigone, is there any website that I can visit relating the tDCS?

By droopy on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 01:03 pm:

i did a google search. apparently it's a real thing.
and i think anitgone is the kind of guy who'd try it
    out.

let me know it worked/you survived.

By Antigone on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 07:14 pm:

Yes, pep, there are several sites. This is a good one:
    http://speakwisd
    om.wordpress.com

Yep, it's real. Tried it for a few minutes last night with about
1 milliamp current on the F3 montage, just for giggles.

    Check out this
    cheesy
    video

By Antigone on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 07:24 pm:

droop, I only did it for a few minutes last night because I
didn't have anything to hold the electrodes to my head. I'm
going to head out tonight and try to find some velcro straps.
WHat got me into this was
    this
    article

about math ability being increased by tDCS to the right
    parietal lobe. I figure it's worth a shot. :)

By Ms. Pepper on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 08:21 pm:

Man, I was never good with math. I dread this the most. When receiving the treatment, how long will this last to keep your brain focused?

By Antigone on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 09:27 pm:

The article I linked said the effects lasted for six months.

By droopy on Friday, May 24, 2013 - 11:57 pm:

    i don't think i'd trust myself with electricity. i
have, though, been huffing rosemary (the herb),
    lately.

By Ms. Pepper on Saturday, May 25, 2013 - 01:45 am:

Well, I hated when it comes to my mind that has a lot of clouded judgement.

By Ms. Pepper on Saturday, May 25, 2013 - 02:49 pm:

It is still cold outside today! I don't know what's with the weather, I supposed if it is cold all summer, then the wintertime will be warmer.

By Antigone on Sunday, May 26, 2013 - 12:45 am:

droop, do you mean rosemary oil? It's great stuff.

By droopy on Sunday, May 26, 2013 - 06:00 pm:

no. i have an unlimited supply of the fresh stuff. i
crush it up and huff it from a jar.

By Ms. Pepper on Sunday, May 26, 2013 - 06:16 pm:

The one for aroma therapy or, it is just for your hair growth?

By Antigone on Monday, May 27, 2013 - 04:23 am:

Ah, straight from the source! Good times.

By Antigone on Sunday, June 23, 2013 - 03:57 am:

Holy god fuck my brain is running at a mile a minute. I'm
solving ludicrously difficult problems. This tDCS shit is
    working.

By Dr Pepper on Sunday, June 23, 2013 - 12:20 pm:

Hi Antigone! Haven't heard from anyone for the past two weeks. Go easy on tDCS.

By droopage on Sunday, June 23, 2013 - 10:40 pm:

i might have to try this tDCS shit. my brain is a
ludicrously difficult problem i'd like to solve.

So what is this? DIY ECT?

I've been at a leadership conference for young librarians for the past 3 days, and I feel like simply being in the same room as people committed to improving the lives of others through their work is the best healing balm I've encountered since being in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.

I have to give a speech this morning about what I've learned, and my basic message is, "Thank you for giving me a renewed sense of who I am as a human being and what my purpose in life is." I won't say this, but I've been depressed for the past few months, and now I no longer feel depressed.

Also, someone told me I look like Audrey Tautou, and that felt pretty good, too.
