i just finished reading an interview with L7 in Glue magazine. Those chicks rock......they had a pln fly over the Lilith Fair concert in some undisclosed city..the plan had a banner that said.."Bored? Tired? Try L7" and hten they also did the same thing over one of the Warped concert tours and the banner read "Warped needs more beaver.Love L7!"

god thats so cool........next time i see em in one of the hood bars i gotta kiss their ass for that one...

Are they in some way correlated with the Breeders? That band just comes to mind when I think about them.

By Cyst on Thursday, October 7, 1999 - 06:09 pm:

no. the breeders links include the pixies, kelley deal 5000, the amps, belly.

both the breeders and l7 were pretty popular in 1992.

By Waffles on Thursday, October 7, 1999 - 06:11 pm:

well they had Gail who was from Belly, in which the Breeders had Tonya Donnelly who went on to form Belly, so yeah, loosely. I am suyre they played gigs together

I think 1992 was the summer I worked alone and got stoned in the office kitchen and played the breeders ep "safari" over and over and over again. really loud.

1993 was the year I went to a breeders show and got really drunk and lost my bra in the pit and shook kim and kelley's hands and tripped over a bum on my way home.

my friend c. was afraid that the guy who was visiting from portland would try to take advantage of me and I thought to myself, "oh, don't worry, he's IMPOTENT."

By Waffles on Thursday, October 7, 1999 - 06:13 pm:

yeah they were all kinda of incestuous like that. L7 had alot of support from Epitaph records which is based in my neighborhood and epitaph was started by one of the band members from Bad Religion,

kelley deal 5000? kim deal? huh?

By Cyst on Thursday, October 7, 1999 - 06:15 pm:

I think "the kelley deal 5000" is the name of the band kelley formed after she got out of rehab or jail or whatever.

while we are jivin bout music, i got an advance for the new sterolab. Disapointed and thats hard coming from me. They have held my attention for 6 years now and have consistantly produced good music. However this one is straying away from their otherwise minimalist moogywunderland krafted music and heading towards a more loungy disco sound. French disco comes to mind and thats one of their best songs from 5 years ago. Besides, they need to lay off the digital manipulation, it's not becoming considering they are so god damned talented with equipment older than they are. Plus they aren't using as much guitar as they used to. It used to be the core of their songs. Three layers of distorted guitar on top of 4 or five different polysynth sounds on top of rhythmic minimalist drums (jes like i like em), sexy sultry socialist rhetoric in french, delicate sounds of a rhodes or worlitzer and a tamborine to top things off.....I will still go and see them in nov becasue they ALWAYS play tunes from previous records and they generally fucking rock live........don't see any pre programed machines up on the stage....

the word on Stereolab's new one has been pretty negative all around (look at nme.com's review...ouch), but I'm really enjoying it. Maybe it's cause all the albums I have of theirs are Emporor tomato ketchup and beyond, after they got John McEntire producing, and the latest isn't too much of a departure from that sound.

By Waffles on Friday, October 8, 1999 - 03:18 pm:

true, althought i highly highly highly recommend their first 4 records....Peng!, Switched On, Space Age Bachelor Pad Music and Transient random Noise Bursts.

they also have numerous side projects, one of them being a rare disc simply called Turn On.....the more i listened to it the more it is growing on me. There are a handful of good songs.......
