repaired public pay phones in n.y. some machine's (upper housing's) were so full of silver, had hard time opening. FOR retired bell system people. what was the most money ever cleared from OUT OF ORDER instrument ? my record was $97.15, nickels, dimes, quarters and washer's.

Mine was a COPT (privatly owned)7D Ernst Telecom, and the most coins I ever retrived was about $225.00...(quarters, dimes, nickles, and a few pennies and no top cover on the coin box)

That is with the coins backed up all of the way, thru the switches, to the top of the coin chute, with coins jammed in the slot on the top cover...

I had to use a butter knife to work the coin box out first... It took almost 2 hours to un-jamm everything else and to get it back in service...
