By Operator22 on Sunday, November 2, 2003 - 07:56 am:

look out for your next phone bill.

if there are 2 ## next to the payment address this means that the exchange is taking part in a government trial of a new billing system.

pay these bills by credit card. dont send checks. the new system is scanning check signatures to "detect fraud"! this is not the case - these spooks are building a national database of signatures to be used like fingerprints.

    Dont sign checks!

    U.S. Government?

By eri on Sunday, November 2, 2003 - 04:22 pm:

So what if they are? Seriously. They have my fingerprints already, I don't really care if they have my signature to help detect against fraud. I have been a victim of identity theft and that really wouldn't suck, having some backup of my signature, cuz I am still fighting this and it happened in 95.

I don't really care, but maybe that's cuz I am used to it. My phone is tapped regularly (rather funny now) and my movements are watched on occasion. I have been dealing with big brother watching me for a while and figure I really don't have anything to hide anyways.

By Antigone on Sunday, November 2, 2003 - 05:09 pm:

Thanks for greasing the slippery slope, eri!

By eri on Sunday, November 2, 2003 - 06:57 pm:

What slippery slope would that be?

By Antigone on Sunday, November 2, 2003 - 09:15 pm:

The one towards a technologically enforced totalitarian government.

By TBone on Sunday, November 2, 2003 - 09:30 pm:

If this is true, it says something that they're being kinda sneaky about it.

By TBone on Sunday, November 2, 2003 - 09:36 pm:

Of course I can't find a single mention of this anywhere else, and operator didn't cite.

By eri on Sunday, November 2, 2003 - 09:51 pm:

I was not being serious Antigone. You should know that by now. That was all said tongue in cheek.

But I will admit that I didn't find anything else on it anywhere, too.

By spunky on Monday, November 3, 2003 - 01:44 am:

Hey guys, I hate to burst your bubble, but.........

They do not have to have some super phone bill lock box to get your finger prints or signature on file.

Ah, paranioa. The best way to keep you looking in the wrong direction.

By Antigone on Monday, November 3, 2003 - 02:31 am:

Why not? It's simple, yet effective.

By 8 on Monday, November 3, 2003 - 02:58 am:

the smartest thing the devil ever did was convince the world that he had a tiny dick.

    or something like that.

By sarah on Monday, November 3, 2003 - 11:22 am:

    resistance is futile.

By The Watcher on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 - 02:51 pm:

"Paranoia runs deep, Into your life it will creep..."

They have my finger prints and signature too.

And, there are times when I could swear that my phone was tapped. Why? I don't know. All my conversations would bore them to death.

Except maybe last night when I called my wife concerning an accident on the beltway. But, somebody would have to be right on the edge of sanity to even find that interesting.

By Nate on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 - 05:17 pm:

i'm right on the edge of sanity and i don't think i'd have found it interesting.

By The Watcher on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 - 05:26 pm:

But, we know you are extraordinary.

By Nate on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 - 05:31 pm:

By Webart Team on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 - 06:01 pm:

    Hello.
We are a web designers/programmers team. We locate at Moscow, Russian
Federation. Currently, our team works for several US companies and we feel
    difficulties in getting our wages.
They're to pay us but they don't send money directly to Russia, because
companies we work for pays us by direct deposits available in USA and Canada only.
Reasonable question: why don't they pay you by checks? Yes, they could, but
here in Moscow is really hard to collect on the american checks (enormous
commission fees and it takes 2-3 months).
We realize that you can't provide your current bank account. So, if you are
ready to help, would you be so kind to open a new zero-balanced checking
account where they could send funds.
After, the following details would much appreciated:

    1.Bank name
    2.Bank address
    3.Account owner
    4.Account number
5.Bank routing number (usually in Fedwire system)

So, when our employers are getting the information they will initiate the
transfer. When the bank transfers are completed your assistance is needed once
again to transfer the money via Western Union or MoneyGram(it is not the best
(profitable) way but it's the fastest one).

Finally, we have to solve the problem regarding your interest in this deal.
We suppose you should get an interest in this business and we can
offer you a good compensation for your help.
The sum is variable but usualy no less than 2000 a week (approx.). Any
    suggestions?

    Thanks much in advance
    Webart Team

i suggest you quit your jobs

Check out the e-mail link to "Internet Abuse" on that page for Cogeco Cable. Anyone want to send them a note? :)

    *ATTENTION*ATTENTION*ATTENTION*ATTENTION*ATTENTION*

*WISPER* posted that today, she got it in a spam mail and posted it as a joke

so call off the troops, RIGHT. NOW.

she probably (okay, definitely) should have put up a preface or posted in her own name, or posted directly before or after the post.

let this be a lesson to the rest of us.

    the mounties are coming!!

By The Watcher on Thursday, November 6, 2003 - 02:58 pm:

And here I was going to say something inteligent.

Like, have the banks here do electronic transfers to their russian accounts. Just like we can all pay certain bills.

By wisper on Thursday, November 6, 2003 - 06:52 pm:

dave, dude, don't joke about that.
Their funny red outfits may fool you, but the mounties are serious shit.
They're the police, state troopers, FBI and CIA all in one.

    how efficiant!

By kazu on Thursday, November 6, 2003 - 07:00 pm:

are they the ones that don't wear any underpants?

By Rowlf on Thursday, November 6, 2003 - 07:02 pm:

    we never see mounties around...

on the way home from Ween, wisper and i saw some mounties walking around at the hotel nate stayed at when he was in Toronto... think it was the Radisson.. whatever...

anyways, even then we wondered if they were just people in mountie uniforms for like a late halloween party, because seriously, the mounties are like ghosts. they're supposedly everywhere, but you dont see them. special police.

By kazu on Thursday, November 6, 2003 - 07:07 pm:

or is it that they just wear very tight underwears?

By wisper on Thursday, November 6, 2003 - 07:13 pm:

    cute red thongs?
