Where are we going to live?

sorabji.com: Insomnia: Where are we going to live?
By spunky on Thursday, April 24, 2003 - 02:29 pm:

Well. Today, by 5pm CST, we are finally supposed to know for sure if we are moving to Montgomery or not.
I spent the first part of this take dismantling my servers that I had worked so hard to set up and get running.
I am now packing them in crates. It's sort of like moving out of your parent's house, with your dad watching over your shoulders to make sure you don't pack the real silver.....
I know I am leaving next week to go to Montgomery for 2-3 weeks to set this stuff up in it's new home. I was told to take some time to look around see if I like it or not, and try to find a place to live if we get transferred. The target date is June 1st.

At least we get to leave the neighborhood kids here when we go!!!!

S is bugging me to go out to MO and visit her there while you are in Montgomery. I told her no.

    if anyone really cares...

    we are not moving.
this is a screwed up issue, but it appears that the staff at gunter (system support group) is a died in the wool microsoft group.
My technology uses ms only as an operating system for some of the servers, the others are unix.
my most critical ones are. none of my applications are microsft.
No MMS, no Active Directory, etc.

So, the group out there has decided to shit on what Air Staff at the Pentagon has done over the last three years (and spend 25 million on I might add) and start all over again with all ms products.

Since they are re-inventing the wheel, they wont need me.
There are no funds for new projects, and most people (quite wisely) are hanging on to what they have.

Now I may be unemployed by june 1st

Maybe this will learn you to care more about corporate influence in the government.

By spunky on Friday, May 16, 2003 - 05:53 pm:

either the corps influence the gov or the gov runs the corps.

By Anitgone on Friday, May 16, 2003 - 06:37 pm:

And, given that a corporation is inherantly a totalitarian institution, I'd rather have our democratically elected (accountable, in theory, to the people) government do the running.

Corporations are only accountable to their shareholders, but that accountability is pretty weak as we've seen with Enron, etc.

By spunky on Friday, May 16, 2003 - 06:39 pm:

    share holders and consumers.

of course, it can be argued that MS almost has a captive consumer group.

I dont trust the gov any more then the corps
