I'm planning on driving my poor Ford Escort up to Seattle for a minivacation.

After consulting our handy-dandy road atlas, and letting Yahoo do the math for mileage, I find that Portland is a mere 3 hrs south of Seattle and it would only add an additional hour to my return trip. What's 1 hour extra when I'm driving 14-15 anyway?

So, you wanna do lunch on Tuesday, Sept. 5?

By Mavis on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 06:27 pm:

By TBone on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 06:32 pm:

Hmm. I'm planning a trip to Seattle soon as well. I could swing by as well... Last time I was in Portland, I was getting my car. I had the hardest time getting OUT of portland. Damn two-lane off-ramps.

By Mavis on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 06:48 pm:

    yes!
    party at my house!!
    when are you coming, tbone?

By Wavy on Monday, August 14, 2000 - 06:54 pm:

Umm - i just tried to email you at that addy Mavis darling, and it didn't work.

    I just tried again.

By TBone on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 11:32 am:

Maybe the beginning of September... I'll prolly be with my S/O, and maybe I can drag Apparissus (who just recently posted one or two things) if I can talk him into it.

I'm horrible at planning things, so we'll see what happens.

By Mavis on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 - 01:31 pm:

    yay! we'll see

By TBone on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 - 04:56 pm:

The plan to hit Seattle (and drop through Portland) is materializing nicely. The plan looks like this:

TBone, TBone's S/O and Apparissus will leave early Friday. We will take the more direct way to Seattle and have a generally awsome time there. On the drive back, (Monday) we will drop through Portland and meet Mavis.

    How's that sound?

By Mavis on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 - 05:24 pm:

    tbone!
    this monday?

    yeah!

By Mavis on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 - 06:08 pm:

tbone-email me and i will give you my number

By semillama on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 - 06:58 pm:

Tbone - prepare your self - mentally and culinarily - hope you like new stuff a lot.

Hope you like wild ass ladies, Mavis' place is Wild Ass Lady Central!

    sem
you are such a rockin' babe!

By agatha on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 - 08:36 pm:

you are going to be passing dangerously close to olympia, if you would like to stop by for a visit. i could take you to the water park.

By semillama on Thursday, August 31, 2000 - 08:56 am:

You should do that too Tbone. If I had had more time in the NW this summer, I would've wanted to come up and visit too.

By TBone on Thursday, August 31, 2000 - 11:38 am:

absolutely, Agatha. Email me with a way to contact you when we come through.

By Wavy on Thursday, August 31, 2000 - 02:25 pm:

Mavis, I emailed you, but I'll post here just to be double-dog sure.

I'll be returning from Seattle on Tuesday - if you wanna do lunch or sumptin, lemme know. I can check my email when I get to Seattle.

By Mavis on Thursday, August 31, 2000 - 06:24 pm:

tbone-are you really bringing Apparissus to my house?

    wow.

welcome to wild ass lady central!

By TBone on Friday, September 1, 2000 - 02:55 am:

Yep. Sure am. Dunno 'zactly when we'll be there, but I'll try to give you some notice.

You too, Agatha. We're flyin' by the seat of our collective pants.

    Bumbershoot, baby.

By TBone on Friday, September 1, 2000 - 10:44 am:

Okay. We're goin'. Gonna drive the Rabbit to Seattle today, see Agatha maybe Sunday, and see Mavis Monday.

    (Just another Mavis Monday.. ooeoo...)

Our lack of planning created some interesting situations. I got advance tickets 5 minutes before they stopped selling them, and we realized that all the cheap places were full, so I'm glad I have an Aunt there.

It's supposed to rain here all weekend. Woohoo!

More info will be presented as it becomes available.

By Hal on Friday, September 1, 2000 - 05:48 pm:

Agatha! How's tomorrow morning sound to meet?

Mavis! How's Monday morningish time sound for you? We wanna get out of there before noon, as we underestimated how hosed we'd feel after the drive, and our classes start Tuesday.

Oh, and Apparissus cancelled at, literally, the last minute. He's going to miss out on you wild-ass ladies.

By Mavis on Saturday, September 2, 2000 - 09:32 pm:

By TBone on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 01:23 am:

Crashing... Mavis... So, so sorry I didn't even get ahold of you. I feel really bad but things didn't go well this morning, didn't even make it out of Seattle by noon. Must sleep now. Classes start in morning. More to come.

By agatha on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 03:12 am:

By Mavis on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 11:45 am:

well, it's not like i did anything to miss out----
my phone works, and i had the teapot on all day.....i was home too!

By agatha on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 12:03 pm:

true. i was trying to compliment tbone, not make you feel bad. your house must have been steamy by the end of the day.

By Mavis on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 12:16 pm:

it was! just like in winter when all the windows are shut and i'm cooking and the windows are drooling with condensation.
    did you guys have fun?

By Jay on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 12:22 pm:

sounds like my grandma's house. all hot and smelling like beef stew and baking bread.

By Mavis on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 12:46 pm:

ugh, except not smelling like beef stew at all, smelling like aloo gobhi and fresh naan and saag paneer and fresh chai spices.

By Daniel ssss on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 09:54 pm:

Saag Paneer - Spinach in a sourcream and onion sauce garnished with golden fried tofu ...

So Mavis, where'd you learn to cook like that???

By Mavis on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 - 09:58 pm:

    i don't know. self taught, i guess you'd say.

i just like to read a lot and a few years ago i
started reading cookbooks and trying stuff out.
i love food and when i eat something fantastic in
a restaurant, i try to copy it (and make it
    vegan).
    it usually works okay.

i also believe in the power certain dishes have to
    seduce. that's awes

By Pez on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 - 01:12 am:

    some?

it's fun to read a cookbook as a novel. i love it.

the energy bar across the street from the central library (portland) has a vegan stew to die for. served with pita bread for $3.50, as i remember.

    food is emotional.

my dad got me started on the path of vegetarianism when i was twelve. i had two pet rabbits and he butchered them and tried to feed me rabbit stew.

i wonder why i'm afraid of my dad? maybe that's it.

By Mavis on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 - 11:43 am:

pez- do you mean the energy bar? or cup of cheer?

By Hal on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 - 05:44 pm:

Damn, and I thought my pot smoking father was nuts...

Well anyway, may be movin my ass outa my home, and into a new one... You know seperation of parents type thing... You know my mom's taking it extreamly well, more so than I would have though... Guess she figured it was coming or something?

By Pez on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 - 08:38 pm:

there's a place called "the energy bar" across the street from the central library on 10th street. you have to cross the max tracks.

it has a big lightning bolt in the window.

the specialty is veggie smoothies and sandwiches (mostly non-veggie). i've only been there a couple of times, on saturdays, and had vegan stew and an italian soda.

there's a table of free local newpapers and pamphlets next to the door, and someone usually leaves an oregonian on one of the othe tables.

it's a good place to sit and eat and people watch.

By Hanniball lecter on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 - 09:55 pm:

its also a good place to sit and eat people.

By spunky on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 - 10:03 pm:

By semilllama on Thursday, May 22, 2003 - 09:20 pm:

She's getting married next month. It's gonna be a hell of a party.

By TBone on Saturday, May 24, 2003 - 07:38 am:

    Hot damn.
    I bet it will be.

By semillama on Saturday, May 24, 2003 - 02:19 pm:

Yes. I suspect that it may even be circus-themed.
