I'm just about to leave for a trip to Tucson. I'm driving there with my sister. Then I'll hitch a plane ride to Oakland and drive a friend's car back to Dallas.

In early July I'm driving to NYC and back.

Anyone on points inbetween want a visit, especially on my east coast leg? I have strange amounts of free time these days.

By Antigone on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 10:25 am:

Oh, I'm leaving in about 10 minutes, so I may not read this thread or check e-mail for a few days.

By agatha on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 01:08 pm:

well, you could visit us in olympia. not that we're anywhere near the east coast, but we're not terribly far from oakland.

By patrick on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 01:11 pm:

    you just passed LA

By Platypus on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 01:17 pm:

We should hook up in oakland. Or something.

Or Mendocino. Mendocino is closer to oakland than olympia is. By far.

By Ophelia on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 03:12 pm:

I'm jealous. i always kinda wanted to drive across the country. (or ride bike or hitchhike, before i could drive). unfortunately i'm not dumb enough to actually hitchhike, and dont have my own car, and am not ambitious enough to bike. maybe someday, tho. Well, i'll be in Yellowstone during that time. If you're coming through, think of me, but i doubt we can meet cause i'll be fixing up trails and stuff on a work crew. Good luck on the road.

By patrick on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 03:17 pm:

save up and rent a car for five days.

By Ophelia on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 03:23 pm:

yeah, i know there's ways to do it. i guess i dont really want it enough to pursue it yet.

By Spider on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 03:36 pm:

You have to be 25 to rent a car.

By patrick on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 03:40 pm:

    oh right.

By semillama on Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 04:26 pm:

if you happen to be near Columbus, drop me
    a line

By Antigone on Sunday, June 16, 2002 - 11:51 am:

    I'm in Tucson now...

Platypus, e-mail me. I'll be in Oakland tomorrow night! (But only for a limited time.)

Oh, one other thing. I saw a book store here on 4th street called "Antigone Books." hehehehe...

    Ciao, folks!

By Platypus on Sunday, June 16, 2002 - 04:59 pm:

    Done.

I think we're both playing oakland for a limited time only.

By Daniel ssss on Sunday, June 16, 2002 - 05:28 pm:

On the outbound to Dallas, the MD80 lost its starboard engine before the end of the taxi way; otherwise this trip has been uneventful, and short. Half way round the world, my son informs me that he and his brother are going to walk through some Italian villages along the Mediterranean Sea. Walking four days at a time, staying in seaside villas.

Travel. That's where it's at, but it wonderful to return home too. That's where I'm at.

By Antigone on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 - 10:35 pm:

Man, I seem to be playing musical cities with Sorabjites. I leave Dallas just before meeting Daniel, then I have to bug out of Oakland before being able to meet Platypus. Sigh...

Oh, Nate and Patrick... I figured both of you would have told me to fuck off if I paid ya'll a visit, so that's why I didn't e-mail ya's. :) I guess that's why ya'll didn't e-mail me either. :D

Anyway, I'm in a truckstop along I-40 in Arizona, about 50 miles from California. The desert is beautiful, but I'm glad it's night. The car I'm driving has no air conditioning...

    Next stop, Grand Canyon!

By Nate on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 - 11:17 pm:

we drove from phoenix to san diego during the day in a car without air conditioning.

    hell. o.

i'm kind of out of the way. stop by if you like. you know how to reach me.

By J on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 - 02:01 am:

Darn you Antigone, didn't you get my e-mail that you were only an hour from me? No air conditioning? You must like to be punished.

By patrick on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 - 11:48 am:

"Oh, Nate and Patrick... I figured both of you would have told me to fuck off if I paid ya'll a visit, so that's why I didn't e-mail ya's. :) "

not at all. it just didnt sound like youd be coming through SoCal.

I've made such a drive with two cats mind you. We had A/C but impossible to run being 100+ degrees.

I love seeing the morons on the side of the road, hood up because they failed to realize their hunker SUV couldn't make it up a 6 mile 20 degree grade climbing to 4000 feet elevation with the A/C on. The hills don't look big, but they are.

By Antigone on Sunday, June 30, 2002 - 07:34 pm:

Well, I'm off again. On the road tomorrow morning, this time in my own car, thank Ganesha! I'll be in Tennessee by the evening to stay with my grandparents. On wendesday, it's off to New Jersey to hang with a friend and my girlfriend for the July 4th festivities. Then I get to trip around Manhattan for a week and attend a conference on evolutionary computation.

Chances are I'll be mosying on the way back, so if anyone wants to do lunch, let me know. :)

By Czarina on Monday, July 1, 2002 - 12:26 am:

    Your sooooooooooo lunchable,Tiggy!

Have a great trip and be careful:)

By Daniel ssss InnKeeper Extraordinaire on Monday, July 1, 2002 - 11:57 pm:

Spent a glorious three days in Kansas City, home of the greatly decorated cow and now teddy bear. They're everywhere! Home again now for prolly a month before striking off without plan at the end of July. So this month, just find JP"s Corner Bar and Grill, walk two doors down, and ask em how to get a hold o me, and if'n I'm sociable, y'all can come swim in my pool.

Oh, did I mention it's not *quite* built yet. So bring a shovel. Oh, and yes, the rates include breakfast, escorted and narrated tours of St. Louis' most adored attractions, and private bath.
