Russia put a million ruthless troops on the ground in Afghanistan taking no prisoners, klling men, women and children, bombing every boulder into smaller boulders(there was and still is nothing to bomb but tents there. No "high-value targets." It was Russia's Viet Nam writ large. Their friendly advice was: "It will just humiliate your country, kill about 100 thousand troops, and leave you to withdraw ignominiously having accomplished nothing except to have left Bin Laden, who was working with the CIA against the Russians, as a national folk hero. |
