    We need your help to eliminate "death squads" operating under the guise of Guatemala's infamous Presidential General Staff - the Estado Mayor Presidencial (EMP). In 2001, two former EMP members were convicted of the 1998 extrajudicial execution of Catholic Bishop Juan Jose Gerardi. Another six former members, including high-ranking officers, are now under investigation for their roles in Bishop Gerardi's murder. The EMP is also implicated in the 1996 "disappearance" of Juan Jose Cabrera Rodas; the 1994 assassination of Judge Epaminondas Gonzalez Dubon; the 1990 assassination of Myrna Mack; and countless other cases of torture, "disappearance" and extrajudicial execution.     Guatemala's President Alfonso Portillo and urge him to dismantle the EMP now.
