    Matt Miller's commentary on NPR's "Morning Edition" September 17, 2002, available to listen to from the NPR.org audio archives (a great resource)

    From a floppy disk that was found outside of the White House and traced to Carl Rove, Chief Political Strategist for the Bush administration, (actually Carl Rove has planned every one of Bush's moves since he entered politics running against the popular democratic governor Anne Richards) Andrew Card the Chief of Staff replied to the question "Why did the campaign to sell the invasion of Iraq to the American public start right after Labor Day?" answered:"from a marketing standpoint, you don't introduce a new product in August."

By Nate on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 - 10:32 am:

    the average american citizen is poorly versed in geography, world history and current events. while clearly unqualified to make choices around the complex issues that face our country, the average american citizen is still a voting member of this democracy.

    marketing, which as a field has been manipulating the minds of americans for decades upon decades, is necessary to properly align the ignorant american public.

    Nate has gone over to the dark side.

    how 'bout marketing by truth, rather than by deception and obfuscation?

    maybe because truth is political suicide.

    let the products sell themselves.
