    Separate Shootings Leave 4 Dead

SILVER SPRING, Md. - Four people are dead in Montgomery County in four separate shootings over a 15-hour period.

The shootings prompted Montgomery County schools to put a Code Blue in effect Thursday. Schools are effectively locked down for the rest of the day. Schools canceled all outdoor activities for students Thursday.

Afternoon kindergarten and Pre-K classes have been canceled.

All morning students are being held at school, unless a parent is picking up a child.

A massive manhunt is underway. Police are searching for a white box truck, possibly an Isuzu, with damage to the rear lift door. The truck has small black lettering on it.

Two of the shootings occurred at gas stations, one at a grocery store, one at a post office, one at a man's home. In each of those shootings, people died.

At a fifth location, a shot was fired, but no one injured.

The first shot was fired at a Michael's store in Northgate Shopping Center.

The second took place Wednesday night, a 55-year-old man who was killed in the parking lot of Shoppers Food Warehouse in the Glenmont area of Wheaton, said Spokeswoman Nancy Demme said.

At around 7:41 a.m. Thursday, in the 11-thousand block of Rockville Pike, a Hispanic man on a lawnmower was shot and killed.

At 8:12 a.m., at the Mobil gas station on Aspen Hill Road at Connecticut Avenue, a black cabbie pumping gas was gunned down and a half hour later at the post office of the Leisure World retirement community, a Hispanic woman was shot in the head.

Another shooting was reported at 9:58 a.m. of a shooting at a Shell gas station on Knowles Avenue at Connecticut Avenue in Kensington.

This is within a couple miles of me! We're not allowed to leave the building for lunch until we hear otherwise. Yikes!

By patrick on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 12:21 pm:

Cool. So they will be ordering in for you.

Pizza? Subs? Chicken salad-sandwichs? Chinese? The options...ohhhh the options!

By Dougie on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 12:42 pm:

Then the delivery guy might get shot.

By patrick on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 12:44 pm:

    better him than you right?

if you get an order of chicken friend rice or a meatball sub out of it....sweetjesusalmighty!

By Spider on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 12:47 pm:

No one's allowed in the building either. Jeez, I hope we can leave on time.

By spunky on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 03:09 pm:

I heard about this on the local radio news channel.
Damn, I did not know you lived in the DC area.
Did they ever catch the guy that was running around shooting needles into people in the neck with a blow gun?

By dave. on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 03:10 pm:

can they really keep you in the building? damn the safety nazis!

By patrick on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 03:12 pm:

    no, they can't.

just like yesterday with the security people telling gawkers they can't photograph the filming they are doing...they impliment these "rules" as 95% of the people abide by them

me? i've got my camera and loads of film today. its a prime op to snap my own editorial.

see if they lay a finger on me or my camera.

she can leave if she wanted to, but why chance it.

By spunky on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 03:29 pm:

    Umm
Patrick things have changed my friend.
They most definately can make you stay.
There is a person commiting "terroristic acts" in the area.
The laws have changed. So have the rules and roles of your local security officer.

By Spider on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 03:54 pm:

I don't know if they can force us to stay in or not....I haven't tried to leave. They just said "please refrain from going out of the building."

The dart-blowing guy? I forgot all about him! I don't know if he was ever caught or not...

I live one block from the District line, in Silver Spring, and I work in Bethesda.

By spunky on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 04:02 pm:

My home office is in Mclean.

By patrick on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 04:50 pm:

spunk. you've lost your mind just like the rest of the country. "terrorist acts", what the fuck are you talking about?

the only people that can direct you to stay or leave anywhere that is not your property are the police.

By spunky on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 07:11 pm:

Oh, so it does not terrorize anyone when a person is just running around picking pff people at random?

By patrick on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 07:33 pm:

you imply this warrants action as if its al Qaida spunk. what the fuck are you talking about.

Santa Monica Blvd is terrifying after dark but its not comprised of "terrorist acts".

    Its the context you used.

By spunky on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 10:11 pm:

    forget it.
I was referring to the terms used by law enforcement as of late. Dosmetic Disturbances (husband and wife fighting) have been labled as terroristic acts.

By patrick on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 12:18 pm:

yes and the use of such terms is terribly indicative of the erosion of our free society as we know....an indication of the Orwellian future to come.

By patrick on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 12:19 pm:

pretty soon, a peaceful demonstration guaranteed by our Constitution will be deemed a "terrorist act".

By spunky on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 01:46 pm:

Wow, we are in agreement. That's it, I gotta get off the pills!

By spunky on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 03:05 pm:

Spider, I take it you got to home?

By Spider on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 09:39 am:

    Yeah.

He shot someone in Bowie this morning. A kid walking with his mother into school.

By Spider on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 09:41 am:

By spunky on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 09:52 am:

    I heard about it.
Awful. I also understand that there is no leads on the guy?

By Spider on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 10:15 am:

Right. At another message board I eavesdrop on, there was some really interesting discussion on the type of rifle he might be using, and also how totally stupid the media is when it comes to reporting this kind of information. All that's known is that he's using .223 rounds.

    From the message board:

    ********************
I was going to mention something that hasn't been brought up yet, but is somewhat obviated by having the actual spent casing, and that is if they're going by the fact the projectile is .223, it could have come from a wider variety of guns than they think.

Rifles that include the circa-.22 bullet include things like the .22-250, .22-3000, .224 Win., .221 Fireball, .222 Rem, .22 Hornet, .218 Bee, and even some rimfires like the .22 WMR or the 5mm Remington, among about a hundred others.

Toss that in and the number of potential rifles doubles. But, as I said, if they have the case, that narrows it down. Commercial softpoint/hollowpoint fragments, while military "ball" ammo merely pokes a hole...

Also, remember that guns don't really ever wear out. This nut might be using some old Rem. 700 action that he has rebarreled, there is no way to tell. Unless there has been some report that I havn't seen, I don't think anyone ought to assume that this guy is using a semi-auto.
    *********************

By kazoo on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 10:27 am:

Yes, but that doesn't make for "sexy" news reporting. "semi-auto" vs. what that guy said.

[By the way, I really, really, really hate they way that some people use the word "sexy" nowadays, like to describe business writing. When I worked at HBR, I remember one of the editors saying, "Yeah, but we need to make it sound sexy."
I almost threw my pen at him. I should have. He should have known better.]

Anyway, not to get off topic. This whole situation is really scary. They are waiting for a psych profile on this guy. I'm curious about that.

By Spider on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 11:47 am:

Yeah, me too. I'm surprised one hasn't been released to the public (watered down) yet.

By spunky on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 11:52 am:

He obviously has had some sort of sniper training.
This guy is not just some maniac or nutjob, or he would have been caught by now, and every shooting has resulted in a fatality.
I am sure he has ditched his vehicle (probably was not even his) by now, and is using some other vehicle.

By J on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 12:32 pm:

What if it's the next wave of terrorism? And yes Spunky it only takes one shot for this sicko he'd had to have had some kind of military or police training.

By Ophelia on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 12:35 pm:

yikes. thats scary. i hadn't heard about that.
    my grandparents live in bethesda.

By Spider on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 12:39 pm:

Sniper training is probably right. I heard in the press conference that there are no shooting ranges in the area where one could practice shooting rifles at long range. He could also be a hunter.

By spunky on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 01:01 pm:

I take back the 100% fatality rate, it appears that the child that was shot today is currently in critical condition, and has been in surgery for quite some time.
So far the tally is 7 fatalities and 1 critical injury.

By Gee on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 11:11 am:

This reminds me of that episode of "Homicide".

    actually, I think it was a two-parter.

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 11:23 am:

The one with the sniper on the roof?

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 01:25 pm:

So...should we put together our own profile?

    Here are my ideas:

    1. White male, 30s
    2. High school education, maybe vocational training -- no college education
    3. Military training possible, but low rank OR avid hunter
    4. Currently unemployed
    5. Native to Montgomery Co., MD -- I think the shootings in VA and Bowie were to throw the police for a loop.

By patrick on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 01:35 pm:

    1) American by birth of Arab descent.
    2) High school education. High end military training, possibly college
    3) Currently Unemployed but only as of recently
    4) Native of FL, residing in MD for last 5-8 years
    5) Sexually, politically and socially isolated
    6) Taliban, al Qaida sympathizer
    7) operates alone

The fact that he shot at women and children suggests to me that perhaps he is making a statement. A cross section of those killed at the American's hands with bombs or sanctions.

Of course this is all a shot in the dark but it will be interesting to see what comes of this.

By spunky on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 01:43 pm:

    1. Arab Male, late 20's to early thirties.
    2. Immigrated into the US within the last decade from Eqypt or Saudi Arabia.
    3. Some form of military/combat training or did not complete US Military Specialist training (US Snipers do not leave shell casings behind).
    4. Currently unemployed
    5. Resident of Bowie. Part of cell located in Bowie that once included 4 9/11 hijackers.

By patrick on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 01:54 pm:

Hey spunk, don't you have be a citizen, either naturalized or native to be in the military, muchless specialist training?

a militarily trained sniper could leave casings realizing it could possibly take valuable time to retrieve them especially if firing from a van opting for the quick get away.

also the casings could be left to throw off the investigators much like he has you.

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:02 pm:

I think you're both WAY off. This is not an Al-Quaida terrorist. Look at what goes on in Israel -- terrorists always come forward to claim responsibility, because they want to have fear-inspiring reputations. If there were a political agenda behind this, we would have heard about it.

Also, you probably don't have your Simpsons episodes pre-empted by the press conferences with the area police chiefs like I do....this is not being treated by the police as a terrorist action. There have been over 1000 leads reported, and none of them involve "terrorism."

This is a one-off, angry young-ish man. He has shot all kinds of different people, not targeting any particular race, gender, age, social sphere, line of work, etc., which you would expect if he were trying to make a political point.

By patrick on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:16 pm:

i didnt say it was an al Qaida terrorist. i think its a nitwit sympathizer crackpot working alone.

"There have been over 1000 leads reported, and none of them involve "terrorism."

They also dont have this person behind bars. So....

If the public knew it was anything related to terrorism you'd have every gun nut and war veteran roaming the streets in pickup trucks.

By Gee on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:20 pm:

where's Bayliss when you need him?

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:26 pm:

In jail, right? Didn't he kill that guy? You know, the guy with the face? :)

Patrick, I agree that this person is working alone. (Well, he may have an accomplice, but he's not working on behalf of a group.)

By spunky on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:28 pm:

I still think it is stubborn and bull headed to not beleive this is some how related to terrorism.
Hell, part of the "training programme" for terrorists, both domestic cells and international cells, includes "assasignation" or "hiph powered rifle" training more then shoulder lauched rockets and explosive training.

Now that does not mean I beleive this guy is acting on behalf of any recognized group, but who says all members of the 9/11 group that were here in the US before 9/11 are dead?
And yes, you are correct, Patrick. If they put out a warning this might be linked to international terrorists (I never said Al Queda), every freak with a shotgun rack in his pick up would be out vigilante style.

How long does it take to pick up a single casing?
Speeding away in a vehicle will attract more attention then bending over to pick something up.

I do not even know if I buy the vehicle description.

Truth is we have no idea who this guy is. Neither do the police.
The FBI and Secret Service have now been called in.

By patrick on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:42 pm:

Say you are firing from inside your van. Shell casing pops outside your open window that you are shooting from. You have to lay the weapon down, open the door, get out and search for the casing. Meanwhile people are on guard for a white van so your best bet is to get the fuck out calmly and quickly rather than rummage around your van. It could take upwards of 10-20 seconds to retrieve a casing in such a scenario.

Actually I dont really believe this person to be associated to terrorism at all. Since this is a free bet, im kinda entertaining some wild fantasies. Id be quite surprised if i was right though.

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:44 pm:

Of course they have. The FBI is always called in when a murderer kills in more than one state, and the Secret Service is involved because there's no telling if the guy will try to pick off the Prez. Don't be an alarmist.

By spunky on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:51 pm:

I am not being an alarmist.
They were not called in until today.
It has been a local matter until today.

I really wish I could express opinion around without being called names and attacked.

    Damn.

And I think it is interesting that the Secret Service is involved, becaue DC is one of the murder capitals in the US, and they cannnot investigate even the more dramatic cases.

It is my personal opinion that it is terrorist related.
It is also my personal opinion that a lot of shit over the last 13 months has been terrorist related.
If this fuck nut was doing this in Afganistan or Isreal (including the west bank and gaza), or Somolia or Kosovo, it would already be labeled as a terrorist act.

Guess what, terrorists do live in the US. They have been here for years.
I do not expect them to continue to be so quiet.
I expect to see a lot more of this activity.

No, every crime should NOT be called a terrorist act.

But do not overlook the obvious, especially if you are doing it in the interest of being overly fair and objective.

I am not even asking you to consider Occum's Razor here, just common sense

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 02:51 pm:

Also, is the reason you're crying terrorism the fact that this is happening in the DC Metro area? If this were happening around St. Louis, or Missoula, or Detroit, would you think terrorism?

How often have we experienced acts of terrorism in the contentinal US? Now, how many cases of serial murder or spree killing can you think of? I think it's much more likely that this is the work of another Son of Sam/Zodiac Killer-type sociopath.

By patrick on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:01 pm:

shes not calling you a name. shes citing your what your behavior dictates.

"And I think it is interesting that the Secret Service is involved, becaue DC is one of the murder capitals in the US, and they cannnot investigate even the more dramatic cases."

    what?

the Secret Service is involved because as spider says....this is now a proven serial case. who knows where the person will strike next. Its a prudent measure that is not surprising at all considering there is a serial sharp shooter on the loose in the district of columbia.

"If this fuck nut was doing this in Afganistan or Isreal (including the west bank and gaza), or Somolia or Kosovo, it would already be labeled as a terrorist act."

All of those countries you cite have been subjected to major military action in recent years and are not a sound comparison. As spider said, they would have been labeled terrorist because terrorists most likely would have claimed responsibility within 24 hours.

Common sense dictates that this is a psychologically disturbed serial killer and has nothing to do with terrorism.

But im still sticking with my illogical, slim-bet guess.

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:06 pm:

    Right.

There is *nothing* that points to terrorism in these shootings. The "murder capital" of the US is like that because of all the drug-related crime in the city. The Secret Service doesn't get involved, and why should they? Little Joe isn't standing outside of the White House threatening to bust a cap in Laura Bush's ass for walking in on his turf. It's not some sort of Telling Sign that SS is getting involved now. They're getting involved as a precautionary measure, because it's impossible to predict who the next target will be.

By spunky on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:08 pm:

    Oh.
Who called and claimed credit for the WTC?
Who called and claimed credit for the USS Cole?
    Khobar towers?

Are you telling me that it is impossible that this guy is acting on behalf of a terrorist cell?
Do you actually think there are no terrorists in the US?

Yes, it is very possible this is just some crack pot serial killer, but common sense screams for us to NOT overlook the possibility of terrorism.
Such arrogant, or ignorant, thinking lead to 911.
The old rules no longer apply.
This IS a new America. The war is here, on our soil. And 9/11 was not the start of it, nor was it the end of it.
The war is against us, the normal US citizen.

By spunky on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:09 pm:

"There is *nothing* that points to terrorism in these shootings. "

Do you read the local papers, Spider?

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:22 pm:

Where have I said I don't think there are terrorists in the US? I said *this guy* is not a terrorist, in my estimation/opinion/whatever.

Common sense tells us to look at similar past events, calculate their probability, and go with the explanation that is most likely.

Do these shootings fit any of the known MOs of Al-Quaida and other terrorist cells? Randomly shooting a few average-Joe people is hardly an effective means of achieving their objectives, scaremongering aside.

I read cnn.com, the Washington Post online, and I watch the local news. I watch the press conferences with the Monty Co., PG Co., and DC police chiefs, regional FBI and ATF directors, etc. No one is pointing to terrorism.

And how quickly after the attacks on 9/11 did we figure out it was terrorism? Wasn't it pretty damn quickly? Didn't bin Laden record videos of himself claiming responsibility for the USS Cole and 9/11 attacks, or is my memory faulty?

By Spider on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:23 pm:

PS. That was not a rhetorical question in my last sentence. I honestly don't remember.

By spunky on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:25 pm:

No, your memory is not faulty.
However, many people have questioned the authenticity of those "confessions", and this thing is still on-going.

    Sigh...
    Never mind.

And I am the one that gets accused of being closed minded.....

By patrick on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:25 pm:

"Who called and claimed credit for the WTC?
Who called and claimed credit for the USS Cole?
    Khobar towers?"

There was overwhelming evidence to prove who it was within a few days. Responsibility has been claimed since.

"Are you telling me that it is impossible that this guy is acting on behalf of a terrorist cell?"

Impossible? No. Anything is possible. Likely? No.

"Do you actually think there are no terrorists in the US?"

Of course I do. That doesnt mean anything.

No one is saying not to look at the possibility spunk, you arent paying attention to what we are saying. We are just arguing that there is no evidence thus far to suggest that its a terrorist and thats statistically, logically, scientifically and demographically common sense mandates you profile someone other than a terrorist.

By spunky on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:28 pm:

I am not calling you closed minded, by the way.

I am just suprised at the intesity of the refusal to admit that this MAY/could be linked to some sort of terrorism, either a rouge who just decides he is going to avenge the blood of the jews or muslims or islamics or a part of an actuall cell, or a part of a group (they WERE looking for more then one person until yesterday).

By patrick on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 - 03:29 pm:

spider is pretty damn smart spunk...her logic be sound and all.

I think this is just the beginning of a new wave of terrorism,I think I mentioned it before Spunky, and the only difference I see between Osama or McVeigh is the country they came from,so actually I think McVeigh is worse because he's an American, but this is an act of terror, actually it's gurilla warfare. What if copycats start doing this everywhere? Anarchy?

By spunky on Wednesday, October 9, 2002 - 09:18 am:

I am suprised that copy cats have not already shown up.

This seems very much like the work of a serial killer.

By kazoo on Friday, October 11, 2002 - 12:14 pm:

This doesn't look to me like a serial killer. This is more like a spree killing. More Charlie Starkweather or Andrew Cunanan than Ted Bundy or David Berkowitz. If it is anything like Cunanan, then the last person will be someone famous.

in the latest shooting a witness says:

"Young described the driver as a short man of slight build who appeared to be Middle Eastern. "I got a good look at the guy," he said."

By dave. on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 12:06 pm:

maybe it's osama himself!! killing america one at a time!

By Nate on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 12:13 pm:

this sniper crap is fucking bullshit.

poor, urban children are statistically more likely to get killed in criminal crossfire. where is the media outrage?

By patrick on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 12:39 pm:

silly.....criminal crossfire only happens over there, in that side of town. who cares.

By spunky on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 01:15 pm:

    While Nate's point is valid...
I have been thinking that this seems to me that there is at least a possibility that there is more then one shooter.
And it appears that the police think that as well, since they are looking for two different trucks.
The thing that really bothers me is that they are using the Predator Surveillance plane to hunt down a person or persons inside the US.
The US Military has never been deployed like this before. In fact, it is unconstitutional.
Now, the Pentagon says that the FBI, Secret Service and the local police are merely using the technology. No different then using the military to assist rescue attempts at the pentagon on September 11, 2001.
My point about that is, things like using your military to patrol your own people always start very small, with innocent intentions.

On a lighter note, Geraldo is in the area; Friday he was signing Hooter's Girls asses. Also in the sniper zone is Yacko, Yucko, Fucko, what ever his name is, who has painted a bulls eye on his torso in a show of defiance to the sniper.
Maybe, just maybe the sniper can do us two favors......

By patrick on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 04:48 pm:

think for moment if this guy is some sort of terrorist agent.

his shooting of men, women and children is example of terrorists propaganda in the past citing the "infidels" have caused death and suffering to women and children also.

He's doing it in the DC area. A symbol. Perhaps, also to draw attention away. A diversion.

Perhaps its coordinated with something larger to come.

A friend had a conversation with a pilot recently about air safety and terrorism. air marshals travel in 3s and 4s. Why? To anticipate several times over a diversion by terrorists. Makes sense. Slap a steward in first class, cause a rukus, see who goes up front first. However the other marshals stick low, waiting.

Maybe this guy is sucking up the resources of the DC area law enforcement, now taking military spy resources.

Hmmmm. This could be really interesting.

Spider are you scared yet? I mean...have you found yourself looking over your shoulder pumping gas, moving erratically and avoiding open fields?

By spunky on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 04:51 pm:

I have several collegues and peers on the Beltway.

By spunky on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 04:52 pm:

oh, sorry, my point was that they are all scared.

By patrick on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 04:53 pm:

oh and also, the tarot card that said "I am god".

    could be fundamentalist ca ca.

By spunky on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 04:55 pm:

in other news, if you do not see anything happen in the next few weeks, nothing is going to happen.
Bush is meeting sharon today. He did promise sharon 24-48 hours notice...

By Nate on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 05:53 pm:

my guess is the "I am god" came from watching red dragon.

By J on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 07:50 pm:

Why don't they put out something like an Amber Alert? Only call it the sniper alert.

By spunky on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 08:02 pm:

    AM I BEING IGNORED???????????????//

By Spider on Thursday, October 17, 2002 - 08:33 am:

I'm not scared. Hoo boy, you should have heard the insane safety tips on the news. Things like, "If you're at a bus station, hide behind something." Or worse, "when you're getting out of your car, honk a few times so people are aware of you." Can you imagine?

However, I know that local businesses have been hit pretty hard, so most everyone else must be scared. The night after the shooting in Manassas (I think), maybe last Wednesday, I went out to the grocery store and the town was virtually empty. Few cars, few pedestrians. It was weird. But nice -- no traffic, no lines! Woot!

By patrick on Thursday, October 17, 2002 - 11:52 am:

    spunky calm down.

if you pay attention you'll notice that the only thing different is im not engaging you in your general idiocy.

    otherwise nothing has changed.

By J on Thursday, October 17, 2002 - 12:40 pm:

You mean your not walking in a zig-zag pattern Spider?

By spunky on Monday, October 21, 2002 - 03:19 pm:

I think the two they picked up today, driving a white van with a rack on top at a phone booth, was just some idiots calling the number tyring to get some kind of ransom or other demand, maybe even just a sick joke.

By agatha on Monday, October 21, 2002 - 06:35 pm:

does it seem slightly overkill to cancel school? i mean, how are you any safer in your house than you are at a school, ya know?

By patrick on Monday, October 21, 2002 - 06:47 pm:

its total overkill. the whole fuckin lot of it. they interrupted my eclectic morning show to bring about some press conference where the fuckwit basically said "i can't go into anymore details other than to say we are continuing the investigation'. You staged a press conference to tell us that you are continuing to do what you've been doing??????? what?????

Its like, fuckoff until you have something to tell us.

The truth is, they have no leads, they have no fucking idea who this person is. They look like ass monkeys more and more with each person shot. There is nothing anyone can do.

So yeah, you might as well go to school, work and about your business.

By spunky on Monday, October 21, 2002 - 06:48 pm:

I thifnk nothing should be cancled.

**IF** (strong if) it is a terrorist, the victims were all doing what all americans do ever day, as part of our daily routines. There should not be any changes.

By agatha on Monday, October 21, 2002 - 07:19 pm:

there was this "safety expert" on tv that was basically telling people not to go outdoors. all of his advice basically concluded with staying in your car/house/workplace as much as possible, and hiding behind pillars when you have to face the evils of the outdoors.

what an idiot that guy was.

By J on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 11:16 am:

I don't like the idea of Spider waiting for a bus while the asshole is on the loose and I know Marcus and PJboy live in the area too.

By Spider on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 11:33 am:

I don't feel unsafe at all. (J, the Silver Spring Metro station is on a raised platform off the street with a wall on either side of the tracks, so the shooter would have to actually be on foot waiting for the train, too, for there to be any danger. And the Bethesda station is underground. No worries.)

I got yelled at by my mom after she called and I told her I had been walking around the city on Saturday. She expected me to stay home all day. Yeah, right. The guy could be anywhere in this huge area -- I'm not going to live like he's got a bead on me.

(That's the goofiest part about the "hide behind things" safety tip. If you don't know where the shooter is...don't you think he could be behind you?)

By spunky on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 11:47 am:

    Right on.

By kazoo on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 11:51 am:

you know, if I lived by all the fears I actually have plus the ones I could easily create...I'd never leave my apartment...and while that sounds appealing right now...it's just not a good idea

By spunky on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 - 11:54 am:

you get a funny shade of white (grey actually) when you do that....

By spunky on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 02:59 pm:

"The handwritten letter running at least three pages was found sealed and wrapped in plastic in the woods behind a restaurant in Ashland, Va., after Saturday's attack, several sources said. The letter was neatly printed on lined paper and included a number of grammatical errors, including sentence fragments and misspellings, said sources."

Dammit, dammit, dammit, when am I gonna learn to use spellcheck????

    so where's my prize bitch?

By trace on Friday, October 25, 2002 - 01:40 pm:

i got your present right here

By Nate on Friday, October 25, 2002 - 03:47 pm:

i'm outraged. everytime someone starts a serial killing spree the cops come out and profile it as a white guy. fucking racism.

By Spider on Friday, October 25, 2002 - 04:13 pm:

I can't tell if you're serious or bored, but a serious answer is -- that's because most of the serial killers that have been caught are white. The three exceptions I can think of are Wayne Williams, Richard Ramirez, and Angel Ra...(shoot, I forget. I think he was in Texas. Reyes, maybe.)

By Nate on Friday, October 25, 2002 - 04:31 pm:

is there racial profiling that isn't based on statistics? i mean, it is either wrong or right.

By Spider on Friday, October 25, 2002 - 04:40 pm:

I have 4 minutes left till I get to leave, so this ain't too well thought-out, but isn't the problem with the racial profiling tactics most highlighted in the media that people were being subjected to inconveniences/harrasment/unauthorized searches *just* because they were a member of a particular race? So it wasn't the racial profiling, per se, but rather the methods used to apply it?

By wisper on Monday, October 28, 2002 - 01:50 pm:

    you know what?
when someone told me they caught the guys, i was actually upset. Not that i'm a sociopath (not much). But i had watched CNN so much at that point, just in awe of the crap they were feeding people, that i started to hope that they'd never find the shooter as a sort of "take THAT, CNN!" move. With their rampant, insane, cocky theories, it was like shooter vs. CNN. Shiney graphic bullshit, fuck! i know i should just turn it off but it's such a 24hr train wreck.

    but really, i'm glad.
That is, if they ARE the guys. But don't try to tell CNN that they're not.

By patrick on Monday, October 28, 2002 - 02:49 pm:

    we are such heathens.

now they are arguing over where he should be tried so they can exact the death penalty.

how sad, but moreover, hows that for an example of how bloodthirsty of a culture we are? Lets see how we can tweak the judicial system so we see to it these fuckers fry.

By trace on Monday, October 28, 2002 - 03:14 pm:

I have been waiting to see if there was another shooter out there....
I was really hoping someone would pop Geraldo...

By Gee on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 10:56 am:

it's so ironic to hear you say things like that, Patrick, when I think about all the "I'd like to kick his fucking head in!" messages you post.

    I'm so very observational!

By patrick on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 11:32 am:

thats called figurative language gee. you smarty pants college girl, i would expect you to detect that.

i would actually kick anyone's head in, except in self defense.

i say such things to emphasis passion.

By patrick on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 01:24 pm:

    rather

"...i WOULDNT actually kick anyone's head..."

i hate it when i do that

By spunky on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 03:02 pm:

they are trying to get the 17 year old on charges that could result in the dealth penalty

By patrick on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 03:08 pm:

    fucking heathens

By trace on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 03:11 pm:

I am still disappointed that Geraldo did not get popped

By Gee on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 04:40 pm:

I know you mean it figurativly, but it's interesting nevertheless.

    he called me smart! teehee!!

By patrick on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 05:11 pm:

    DAMMIT!

see what happens when you dont finish college? you become a grammatical mess like me.
