    Oh, Fucking Crap!

    Bush Praises Saudi Anti-Terror Moves

President Bush's spokesman praised Saudi Arabia on Monday as a "good partner in the war on terrorism," despite accusations that the wife of the Saudi U.S. ambassador might have financially supported Sept. 11 terrorists.

"He believes the Saudi government is a good partner," White House spokesman Ari Fleischer told reporters. The accusations are complicating White House efforts to win Saudi support for potential war against Iraq.

Fleischer refused to discuss the merits of an FBI investigation into the financial doings of Princess Haifa al-Faisal, wife of Ambassador Prince Bandar bin Saltan (sic).

What the hell? I can think of no other reason for this display of rock-dumb stubbornness. And by the way - are the Bushies trying to promote the idea that at this late date, the attack on Iraq still hinges on Saudi "support" for it?

If so, we are in far deeper shit than anybody imagined.

See Patrick, I do not agree with everything that comes out of Bush's mouth. If I see something that bothers me I will say it.

Another News Item that bothers me:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush plans to create a new government agency to dole out billions of dollars in foreign aid, forcing the world's poorest countries to compete against one another if they want a share, administration officials said on Monday.

Strict conditions would be set for countries to qualify under the so-called Millennium Challenge Account program aimed at rewarding cash-strapped governments that embrace civil rights, root out corruption, open up their markets and adopt other policies favored by Washington.

Taking on critics who say the United States does not provide its fair share of foreign aid, Bush has promised $5 billion a year for the new program starting in fiscal 2006. Money would begin to flow in the fiscal 2004 budget, which will be unveiled in February, but officials said the dollar amounts for 2004 and 2005 have yet to be set.

The money would be in addition to the roughly $10 billion the United States distributes each year for foreign development assistance or $17 billion counting security funds.

that last article sounds Bush is creating a game of global cock fighting.

It's crap. The only pre-requist to receiving aid should be not using the aid for terror or genocide.

    or human rights abuses.

According to those conditions above, many of the governments we helped to prop up in the 80s would not qualify. Of course, since they would get aid from us anyway, i guess it doesn't matter.

By patrick on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 - 01:21 pm:

are you kidding? we've pussed on the human rights prerequisite countless times in recent history.

No way in hell thats an issue.

By trace on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 - 01:39 pm:

we have often put strategic considerations over human considerations. Look at Afganistan, Iran, Isreal, even Iraq before 1989.
Kind of "what's in it for us?" mentality.
Which has it's merits, but should preclude us from pointing fingers at others.
