    Dear Jammers,

First, a big Happy Holidays to all of you. The world is never in so much trouble that there isn't time to breathe, dream, or spend an hour counting stars.

What a year it's been - but it's 2003 that has all the makings of a flashpoint in history. For months we've been living in the long shadow of September 11. Now we're seeing that the war on terror is something else as well: an entrenched defense of an unsustainable culture of fear and self-interest. Next stop: a cynical Gulf War with only one clear outcome - Western control of Iraq's vast oil reserves and the global price of petrol.

As the chill lifts and the stakes grow higher, the left-right polarization of the past is giving way to a new politics. It's a confrontational,rough-and-ready refusal to live in a state of perpetual siege at the expense of everything from the earth and oceans to our minds and freedoms. It's up to all of us to bring that movement to life - jamming has never been so essential.

We'll see you out there, from the streets to the airwaves, and if Bush unilaterally invades Iraq we'll crack his nut.

kind of ironic. "an entrenched defense of an unsustainable culture of fear and self-interest"

this is, in fact, how ad busters operates.

by whipping up fear in the hopes of furthering the self-interest of socialists.

unfortunately, what socialists fail to understand, dispite the perponderance of real world evidence, socialism is a failure when it comes to the liberty of citizens. while our capitalist state is not perfect, it does provide for its citizens better than any other state on the planet.

the united states is unique in the size and influence of its middle class. the american people have more freedom of choice than any other people on earth.

this is worth protecting. and when you realize that our liberty is based on the power of our economy, you will realize that things vital to our economy are worth protecting.

    hey!
did you know that even the fortune cookies here are in english and french?

english on one side, french on the reverse:

"Jeunesse et beaute' riment rarement avec sagesse." * "In youth and beauty wisdom is rare."

My iPod died this morning. I had to restore it, thus losing 6,000+ songs, and it's still not working. I will take it to an Apple store on Wednesday and hope it can be repaired, but I lost all my music and I want to cry.

By platypus on Saturday, November 7, 2009 - 04:38 pm:

Oh, Spider! When my car was broken into a few years ago and all my music was stolen, it was heartbreaking. Maybe between the Sorabjiites, we can restore at least part of your collection?

By Nate on Saturday, November 7, 2009 - 05:09 pm:

some of us are quite crafty.

    "dispite the perponderance"

    what a douchenozzle i am.

    send me an email spider.

By Dr Pepper on Saturday, November 7, 2009 - 07:08 pm:

wisper, i once pulled a note from fortune cookie and it reads, Confucious said"Go fuck yourself".

Spider, didn't you have a back ups of music stored in a computer hard drive? in just case, it can be reloaded, whetever when you had your ipod repaired or bought a new ones.

I wonder if people are using the cd-rom anymore? cause the usb are on the rise.

By droopy on Saturday, November 7, 2009 - 09:16 pm:

i've been eating delivery moo shu for the past couple of days. none of my fortune cookies had bilingual aphorisms or ironic insults, just the standard "you're a great guy, buy more food from us" stuff.

i know nothing about how ipods work. but i know nate is the man for the job. i don't even listen to my cd's that much anymore. mostly i play uke. but today i got my 'bukowski reads his poetry' disk.

By Spider on Saturday, November 7, 2009 - 09:56 pm:

Thanks for the offer, Nate, but I don't think there's anything you (or anyone) can do except pray over it at this point. Unless you've got a voodoo hookup I don't know about...

The hard drive was completely wiped when I restored (well, "restored") it. I still have a lot of my old CDs I can copy, and I have no qualms about **Downloading Illegally**, but I can't even remember everything I had on there... And anyway it won't let me copy any new files onto it. Every time I try, iTunes freezes and then I can't even eject the thing properly.

I done killed my iPod. :~(

By J on Sunday, November 8, 2009 - 02:13 am:

Well Spider I was going to say even I learned how to burn C.D.'s and I have no qualms about "downloading illegally" either,I was going to offer my services. I do have three vodoo dolls that Czarina got me when I was going through a bad patch a few years ago so let me know if the prayers don't work.

By Antigone on Monday, November 9, 2009 - 12:37 am:

Hard drives can be recovered even after they've been reformatted.

By Dr Pepper on Monday, November 9, 2009 - 01:19 am:

yeah, everyone knows that, but yet , they are not suspected that their ipod was infected by virus......

By Spider on Thursday, November 12, 2009 - 10:13 am:

UPDATE: I went to the Apple Store yesterday and got a new iPod in my model (80GB Classic, which apparently they don't make anymore?) for $130 and have been spending my waking hours filling it back up again. It currently bears about 3000 songs.

    :)

By Dr Pepper on Thursday, November 12, 2009 - 11:30 am:

Spider, try ebay? but, i must caution you that whetever if you could trust a buyer from ebay, i suppose if the seller says " no returns", we may not want to trust them.

By Danielsss on Sunday, November 15, 2009 - 10:14 pm:

    Spider, no returns. My Garauntee.

    'm a color reporter
    (Rose City on the 409)
But the city's been bled white
(White city on the yellow line)
    And the doctor orders
(Drinking to distraction's just a waste of time)
Drinks all night to take away this curse
But it makes me feel much worse

    Bled white

So I wait for the F-Train
(White city on the yellow line)
And connect through a friend of mine
(White city to a friend of mine)
    To a yesterdaydream
(Yesterday a dream was just a waste of time)
'Cos I'd have to be high to drag the sunset down
    And paint this paling town

    Bled white

So here he comes with a blank expression
'Specially for me, 'cos he knows I feel the same
'Cos happy and sad come in quick succession
I'm never going to become what you became

    Don't you dare disturb me
(Don't complicate my peace of mind)
    While I'm balancing my past
(Don't complicate my peace of mind)
'Cos you can't help or hurt me
(The anger, being mean was just a waste of time)
Like it already has, I may not seem quite right
But I'm not fucked, not quite

    Bled white
    Bled white
