one thing I have now realized: Bowling for Columbine was known and did well, but its going to be nothing compared to this I think all hells going to break loose. I think there could be fights in theaters. This I think has the making of "passion of the christ" level controversy. Right wing talk shows and pundits are going to tell everyone not to see it or complain about it on the air and its only going to make it worse for them. Its all so clear. Going to be very interesting. In the meantime, I'm having fun watching the yahoo boards where they're foaming about the French giving Moore the award.... ... when there were 4 times as many Americans on the panel than French people. Heh. I've read that Moore is in the movie less than previous ones. Which is very good. And although i thought the opposite last year, maybe there'll be less legitimate cripes about accuracy, since theres so much stuff already that speaks for itself: words from Bush's own mouth, that interview with Barbara Bush where she says she shouldnt waste "her beautiful mind" thinking about how many people will die in Iraq. and so on. Gonna be interesting. I thought Moore was reaching when he said he hoped it would influence the election, but now I wonder... I mean, John Kerry is probably going to have to talk about it, and theres no way he can get away with washing his hands of it. And theres so much that should be in there that Bush can't refute if he tried. Not hearsay or spin of facts, but actual video of him fucking up and stuff like the bin Laden connections, which snopes has even taken the time to declare true. Yeah, so I'm more interested in the reaction than the actual movie. I'm sure the movie wont tell me anything I dont already know. "Bring it on" |
I think I spent about 1/4 of the movie with my eyes closed, either out of embarrassment over the horrifying idiocy before me on the screen (I can't bear to watch *anyone* be humiliated or humiliate themselves, and GWB is no exception) or out of sheer horror (US soldiers being mutilated, Iraqi prisoners being abused). I really dislike Moore's style and I think it heavily detracts from the gravity of his message. I mean, dude. If the bare facts alone make me sit in the theatre and wish for the deaths of at least 4 people, you don't need to embellish them by playing "Shiny Happy People" over a goofy photo montage. Okay? That said, *what* a message. |
