Sarah's getting married!!!!!!

sorabji.com: Are there any news?: Sarah's getting married!!!!!!
THIS IS A READ-ONLY ARCHIVE FROM THE SORABJI.COM MESSAGE BOARDS (1995-2016).

By semillama on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 05:34 pm:

Sarah gave me an update to post for us. Here it is (slightly edited):

"i can't get to sorabji bbs from work because of a firewall, and i can't get to it from home (well, i can read from home, but rarely have time, and still can't post anyway) i'm assuming because i'm using wireless which the bbs script translates as insecure or something, and somehow it replies that i don't have rights to post.

    bah.

and double bah to bush winning this election. fucking bible belt morality. keep morals in church. if anyone had done the kind of job bush
has done in any mediocre private sector business, he would have been fired. i can't believe we have to live to see the nightmare of the next 4 years unfold. the only solace is that at least bush is now required to try to fix the mess that he's made, instead of making someone else clean up after him.

    *******

i've been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to find words. what to tell? you know me, i'm
such a romantic. how could i possibly begin to write something that could accurately describe it all?

    the basics

    name: d*****
    real age: 39
    looks and acts: 33-35
    status: single, never married
    kids: none
    hair: black, curly
    eyes: blue
    height: 5'11
    weight: 180
transportation: '68 chevy malibu convertible, kawasaki w650
    occupation: teacher
demeanor: romantic, wild, witty, independent, generous, attentive,
impulsive, defiant, philosophical, spiritual, indulgent, rugged
hobbies: guitar, ukulele, yoga, golf, motorcycles, travel, interior
    design, photography, auto repair/maintenance

he used to live in maui, twice.

he treats me like i am a rare treasure, every single day.

he goes way out of his way to do nice things for me. big things and
    little things.

    we don't fight.

he challenges me emotionally and intellectually and spiritually.

he knows exactly what he wants.

he knows exactly how to handle me.

he owns his own place, decorated beautifully.

he's traveled all over the world.

we play guitar together. we ride his motorcycle everywhere. we go to
the golfing range. we go out for breakfast every sunday morning. he
very rarely lets me pay for anything, still.

he is the best kisser. ever.

and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

    love,
    sarah"

A hearty round of congratulations is in order!

By Platypus on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 05:49 pm:

    Omygosh.

That's so awesome. I'm totally happy for her. This is like the year for Sorabjite engagements or something. I'm gleeful. This made my day so much more cheerful.

By TBone on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 06:00 pm:

    That's wonderful! Woohoo for Sarah!

By Nate on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 06:03 pm:

holy shit and goddamnit all mixed together.

    congratulations, sarah!

By semillama on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 06:14 pm:

i wonder if our more computer-savvy fellows could assist sarah with her wireless problem?

By TBone on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 06:25 pm:

Various reasons I've run into that error are:
Using a weird browser, such as lynx.
    Using an anonymizer proxy.
Having cookies turned off. (possible too-high security settings or something)

Weren't AOL users blocked at some point in the past?

By semillama on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 07:02 pm:

She told me she uses mozilla. She was pretty amped to hear about jizzmop.

By kazu on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 07:05 pm:

actually, I don't see why Bush should have to clean up his own mess--he has nothing to lose now since he can't be re-elected, so he'll just keep making more bigger messes.

By wisper on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 07:10 pm:

    that is freakin' crazy.
what glorious news on an otherwise pitch black week.

By Dodi on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 11:41 pm:

    Kazu, aren't you jealous?

By Czarina on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 12:53 am:

    Yippee Skippy!!!!!!!!!!!
    Can this be true?!?!
    Yea for Sarah!

By heather on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 01:08 am:

By jack on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 01:25 am:

jizzmop tried to step to kazu? *snort*

    ridiculous.

By Czarina on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 01:27 am:

Jealousy is so unbecoming.Cold bitchiness is more my forte.

    Sweet,sweet Heather :)

By agatha on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 01:31 am:

Whatever she said, I've got your back with Heather, Kazu.

Sarah, yay! Czarina's back, yay! Country's going to hell, yay!

By Czarina on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 01:41 am:

With heather and agatha watching your back Kazu, me thinks you're pretty well covered.

(But J and I are around, should they need backup)

By kazu on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 02:00 am:

    what's GIR?

By moonit on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 06:13 am:

I sent Sarah an email but I dunno if she got it.
    thats such wickedgood news.

By Nate on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 12:08 pm:

By Gee on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 12:31 pm:

    that is indeed fantastic.

there are many a guy and girl crying their eyes out over this, tonight.

in case I have never said it before, I find kazy and sem to be a lovely couple. you are quickly approaching Brenda/Dylan status.

By kazu on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 12:46 pm:

"I find kazy and sem to be a lovely couple. you are quickly
    approaching Brenda/Dylan status."

those are two contradicory statements ;)

he be here 'bout an hour or so...

Why would I be anything but absolutely
    thrilled for sarah?

I'll admit, when I saw that on Wednesday, there
was precious little that could bring a smile to my face.

Though I wonder how long it will be before
    non-christian marriages are banned.

I'm joking. No, I am not. Yes, I am. No. Yes
    flipflopflipflopflipflop

Anyway, I am so happy Sarah has found someone
    wonderful.

By eri on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 05:10 pm:

I am so happy for Sarah. What sucks is that I live only an hour away and don't have the vehicle to drive out there damnit!!!!!!!! I could be the Sorabji Welding ameteur digital photographer for the event, but no transportation damnit!!!

We've been rooting for her for so long. Someone has to be there for this event!

By Gee on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 05:34 pm:

teehee! eri's going to weld Sarah and her beau together! heeeheehee!

you have sticky fingers today, missy.

By Antigone on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 05:51 pm:

eri, if sarah invites us all I'll swing by and pick ya'll up. How's about that? :)

By TBone on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 06:22 pm:

What ISP does she use? Does she have any weird, overly protective antivirus/firewall/ad-blocker stuff installed?

By wisper on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 07:28 pm:

kazu- requesting pics of your Jude Law and Noam Chomsky (spelling..) pillowcases.

I could not get them out of my mind today, what the hell do they look like, i wonder, try to imagine....

By eri on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 07:38 pm:

Sounds like a plan Antigone. We'll help pay for gas and such, if she sends invites.

Yes, I can weld them....hehehehe....it will give a new definition to a handfasting :) Forget tying the rope, we'll just bring out the welding equipment. But I do have to admit that my ceremony would not be exactly legal..........

By kazu on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 07:51 pm:

My Jude Law teeshirt is long gone...I
wore that thing out. And I don't have
    a Noam Chomsky pillowcase, it's
Christopher Hitchens and since he's all
neo-con now, I am not so excited about it.
Sem and I will take a picture of it tonight
    and post it later.

By wisper on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 08:14 pm:

    silly me.

I was thinking about it as i made plans to turn all my old heavy metal concert t-shirts into pillowcases.

By lapis on Friday, November 5, 2004 - 08:28 pm:

    yay for sarah!

wowee zowee and it's all so much.

By RC on Saturday, November 6, 2004 - 03:22 am:

Finally -- Some Good News this awful week!

CONGRATS, SARAH! I wish you & your beau all the best! Now you've got paradise AND the Perfect Man to share it with.

Be sure & post some pciures for us to ogle & be jealous of.

    - RC

By agatha on Saturday, November 6, 2004 - 02:37 pm:

    (RC, she's in Texas.)

RC's like the eccentric aunt that lives overseas, and still thinks her nieces and nephews wear size 6X when they are 15 years old.

By wisper on Saturday, November 6, 2004 - 05:33 pm:

maybe RC just thinks that Texas is paradise.

    HAHAHA!

By Antigone on Saturday, November 6, 2004 - 06:56 pm:

    Hey, fuckus thee, thy anus!

By J on Saturday, November 6, 2004 - 08:12 pm:

She probably doesn't know Sarah left Hawaii, don't ya think?

By agatha on Saturday, November 6, 2004 - 10:00 pm:

Exactly my point. I think she find these things out, and then forgets.

By semillama on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 07:39 pm:

yes. tis why she shouldn't go without sorabji for so long.

Mount thee upon thyself, thou bowel opening!!!

I am listening to Luca Tirelli on Kazu's computer.
It's like a witches brew of Dio, Iron Maiden, Yngwie,
and the first edition AD&D players handbook and
monster manual, especially the entries for
    red dragon and wood elves.

    Yes. it's that awesome.

By Nate on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 08:31 pm:

    Turilli?

By kazu on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 08:53 pm:

    yes.

    dorkrock

By RC on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 10:22 pm:

Sorry! I didn't know she'd moved to TX. I've been gone from the Sorabji Asylum for a while - like 2 years - until recently. And the way she raved about Hawaii, I figured she'd never leave paradise.

I have been to TX -- to Dallas, Corpus Christi (which I halfway liked since it's on the Gulf) & Lubbock. All of which you can have. I hear Austin is cool but I've never been there. Texas is the fugliest place I've ever seen. It's flat & drab boring & takes forever to drive across. Bush Country -- Yuck!

But Congrats Anyway, Sarah! If you're living in TX, that's all the more reason to be glad you've found your One True Love.

And if you brats would ever WRITE to your poor auntie, I'd have your proper clothing sizes & know what's going on with the family! Bah!

(How is that lady with all the ducks & geese? Wasn't she named Sarah too?)

    - RC

By heather on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 02:52 am:

    oh sheila

By Gee on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 10:48 am:

does anyone Ever hear from Sheila?

By Thibodeaux on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 02:02 am:

    who has the arm pain?

By Czarina on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 10:50 am:

My butt hurts, does that count?

By eri on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 11:41 am:

OMG....but hurts....that reminds me of Micki last night. Spunky was rocking her to sleep. She says "Daddy my butt hurts" Spunky says "What's wrong where does it hurt" Micki says "It has a CRACK in it!!! Look, a crack" and points to the crack in her ass......when we stop laughing we explain to her that everyone has a crack in their ass, and she again is like "but look I have a crack"......

OK, maybe that was a "had to be there" type of thing.........

By Dodi on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 01:00 pm:

That's funny eri!!! My son used to say things like that too, so it brought back some great memories for me.:)

By patrick on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 01:46 pm:

i missed this thread over the weekend!

    dammit. im in a haze!

    wahoooo sarah!

my best to you and yours-to-be.

By droopy on Sunday, May 29, 2005 - 05:45 pm:

    wow, sarah got married too.

    and somewhere heather got attitude.

and, yes, north texas is ugly. my mother says "typical texas ugly." but i still get chocked up when i go down to the austin hill country.

By heather on Monday, May 30, 2005 - 05:15 am:

well i did live with nate for a while

    *grin*

but i'm pretty sure i had some before that

By Nate on Monday, May 30, 2005 - 11:44 am:

your attitude aint got nuttin do wit me woman.

By droopy on Monday, May 30, 2005 - 12:16 pm:

maybe you had some some tentative attitude 3 years ago, heather. but now you're all happy and confident about it. or you're on drugs all the time. which would probably be nate's fault.

By heather on Monday, May 30, 2005 - 04:23 pm:

    nate!

the drugs are few and far between, and also not nate's fault

    mm... happy and confident

By spiracle on Monday, May 30, 2005 - 10:18 pm:

well..i was gone when this thread came about..

    congrats to sarah..

i had no idea she is in texas..

yeah, well..*some* of texas may be ugly but the people kick ass..so THERE..and if all ya'll'S little states had so much land like we do i imagine they'd have parts that were ugly too..and guess what..THEY DO..and aren't as big either..

(and i'm not talking about california..you people can just stay quiet)

By droopy on Monday, May 30, 2005 - 11:47 pm:

there will always be fear and loathing of texas.

By Daniel ssss on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 12:48 am:

Sarah's in Texas and she bought a house but when I talked with her last, last month, she was not married. Not in 2004, not in 2005. Her site says nothing about it, but you know, no one deserves domestic tranquiliy than she does. Except may be me.

By Dougie on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:08 pm:

Daniel ssss, tell Sarah that we all wish her the very best, and that we wish she would come back and post. I don't mean to speak for the others, but I'm sure they would concur.

By jack on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 10:46 pm:

    sarah is muy cool.

i miss seeing her posts here but am happy to see the photos of her groovy scene and hope it's all smoove.

By wisper on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 - 01:59 pm:

is it bad that i never actually expected the marriage to happen?

is it bad or just observant?
there's a pattern that i didn't think would be broken, yet.

By jinx on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 - 02:11 pm:

    just observant.

the guy in the pictures on-line looks
like senor ballz dave and not the guy
    she describes in sem's post.

By Cat on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 09:12 am:

I felt incredibly silly when I found out that no one expected me to get married, even though they were entirely right. I felt that they'd sabotaged it in some way.

By droopy on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 11:39 am:

i've always known i would never marry. but i was surprised one night when i was having drinks with my sister and a couple of her friends when, during the course of some talk about the annoying habits of men, she said to me: "you're a confirmed bachelor." she said the phrase in such a way that it sounded like she was remembering it from previous discussions. made me wonder.

One thing I know for sure
    I will never marry
    I don't wanna find someone
    to be my baby
    I don't wanna find someone
    to be my baby

I live my life simply in a
    small one room house
I keep my things with me
there's no space for a spouse
I keep my things with me
there's no space for a spouse

All my friends think I'm sad
    to live here alone
    Or they think I'm crazy
that my mind must be blown
    Or they think I'm crazy
that my mind must be blown

When I get to old to take
    care of my business
    Then I'll see the wisdom
    of not living so strict
    Then I'll see the wisdom
    oh...yeah....

    La, la, la.....

By sarah on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 - 05:08 pm:

i felt very guilty when i found this thread earlier this year.

so many people here i care about in ways i could never explain to others.

so many people coming out of the woodwork to post after being absent.

this engagement was a very brief affair. i'm not embarrassed about it. we made a mistake. he was a great guy, we still keep in touch.

i miss riding on the motorcycle every now and then.
