Kansas City Star has an article on this, and KAKE.com has a video. This is the town next door to where Trace's family is from, but it is all so rural that it is like one town. It dates back to the civil war. There is an Army base from the civil war there. On the other side of the cobblestone street there is (or should I say was) an adorable shopping district, with antiques, crafts, clothes, all kinds of shopping. The area is exactly what you would expect from a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. We used to shop there all of the time, whenever we went to visit. The antique store was awesome. We ate at the mexican restraunt there (the only one in that area of the state). Being that Trace's grandfather way Mayor of Redfield (the neighboring town) for 44 years, as we shopped there everyone would talk to us (like we're royalty) and we got to know the store owners and everyone around there. 9 buildings destroyed, 6 or 7 more damaged. All of those families no longer with an income, a livelihood. All that history GONE. It's so sad. But on the upside, Trace's cousin Scott is pictured in the KC Star article and you can also see him in the KAKE.com video of the fire.....Scott is a firefighter out there, just like Grandpa was. I'm in shock, and deeply saddened by this. And the fact that ATF is going out there today to start an investigation into the fire confuses me. |
