By patrick on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 06:01 pm:

    What do you think man?

This is only an issue in Washington man.

Each year it comes up. The goes away. Every single fucking year.

Those 2 year crackpots in the house have nothing else better to do. It passes, then it goes to the Senate where it's shot down.

I can assure you if it passes (which it won't), a lot more flags will be burned including my own.

By Antigone on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 07:14 pm:

Rowlfe, you say that's a "lighter note," but in the past few months there have been weekly explosions of 18 wheelers on Dallas highways, on many of our major highways, bridges, and overpasses. Almost every week this has happened, sometimes twice in a week, and so far no one in the local media as said "terrorist" in connection with them.

One even made national news. This one didn't even do the most damage...

By platypus on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:08 pm:

Woah Antigone, I was not aware of that. I wonder what other things are going on in far flung parts of the nation that the rest of us are unaware of?

By droopy on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 08:46 pm:

i remember when the whole "ban flag burning" thing began back in the elder bush's administration.

just when you think texas can't get any more dangerous.

By Rowlfe on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 09:05 pm:

    tig, I was being sarcastic.

By Rowlfe on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 09:05 pm:

however.... it is stupid that Delay would compare iraq to houston...

By platypus on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 09:32 pm:

I'm curious because the amendment actually just empowers Congress to "prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States," what exactly is going to happen here.

For starters, under the U.S. Flag code, the only way to properly dispose of a flag is burning. Several people in the senate have pointed this out, mainly the opponents to the amendment. But I think it's important to distinguish burning and desecration, because actually the amendment could have quite far-reaching consequences depending on who gets to define desecration. Pooping on the flag? Scribbling on it? Letting it touch the ground (according to the U.S. Flag code)?

The senate does look pretty tight on this one because of the Republican stranglehold. Get your protected free speech in now!

By Antigone on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 - 09:42 pm:

Platy, you can't know it if the media's not reporting it. Heck, even in Dallas I wouldn't know about it if I didn't watch the local news every day.

It's kind of like the big oil and gas plant exlosions in Houston. They happen about once a month now. Is the media even speculating that terrorists are to blame? Nope, just the opposite. It's usually, "Massive explosion at oil refinery today. Experts say terrorists are not to blame..."

Yeah, Rowlfe, what DeLay said about Houston is all the more ironic because of what's been going on there and in Dallas.

By droopy on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 03:02 am:

it's too late and i'm too tired.

so here's a link to a pretty good page about the subject.

By Rowlfe on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 03:58 am:

i'm tired too. theres nothing i can do about it.

i'm up til 4am almost every night lately, emailing art directors. I'm waiting for this dude from the las vegas weekly to get back to me. it seems like he's biting.

By patrick on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 01:15 pm:

theres a better chance than in previous years of this bill passing because this country keeps getting dumber and putting crackpots in congress. Dems lost more seats this past election.

i still don't think it will pass.

By spiracle on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 03:28 pm:

i wonder if the majority of veterans feel like they have but their lives on the line and/or died for our right, as american's, to burn our flag...hmmmm..any vets. have an answer to this? does sorabji.com attract veterans? hmmm?!

ofcourse, i think it's disprespectful but if some wanker wants to do it..then so be it..

By Antigone on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 04:23 pm:

If God didn't want the flag burned he wouldn't have made it flammable.

By wisper on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 09:03 pm:

    Remember last time?

Man, check out the fury coming out of spunky in that one.
    Nice.

By spiracle on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 10:52 pm:

    buncha hippies

By dave. on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 11:36 pm:

spiracle, if we can ever get the u.s. to truly stand for life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, education, critical thought, true democracy, and respect for compassion, i'll fly that fucking flag myself. but right now, right here, today -- anybody who flies that fucker is a fool and/or an asshole.

i identify with it about as much as i identify with the flag of fucking atlantis. it's a symbol of a myth.

not that i want to burn it or anything. that would give it too much symbolic importance.

if that makes me hippy, then we need more hippy -- and a lot more soap and water.

By spiracle on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 12:04 am:

do you travel enough outside our country? if not, i suggest you do...nothing makes me want to come home more than a trip outside our borders...

the u.s. isn't perfect by any means..i've never been so disheartened by where our country stands than i am now..

but, like you said so perfectly...the flag stands for all of those things NOT for who is in office or the dumb ass politicians and their fucked up decisions...

fools or assholes? wow..i don't really know what to say to that...

By dave. on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 01:44 am:

i'll have you know i've been to both vancouver and victoria. that's in canada, in case you didn't know!

no, we're not perfect. not even close. we have been very lucky. so far. i suspect that the challenges of the rest of the world are finally nipping at our own heels. we could have gone the route of bringing the world up to our standard of living but, instead, it looks like we're gonna get a feel for life in a country without a middle class. thank bill clinton for that. he signed nafta so a republican didn't hafta. thanks, bubba.

    yeah, fools or assholes.

By droopy on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 02:01 am:

ah, fuck it. fly a flag.

not flying one till america lives up to an idealized dream seems passive and boring.

burning doesn't say "change the existing". it says "get rid off."

i say do all the shit you keep complaining about and fly a flag. smoke a joint in a public place and fly a flag. marry your life partner and fly a flag. hell, burn a flag and fly a flag.

if we do this enough, they'll outlaw flag-flying.

    problem solved.

By dave. on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 02:48 am:

i hear what you're saying, droop. but i disagree.

american flag lovers can lick and suck a temporary american flag tattoo off of my ballsac. they besmirch and contradict the founders' ideals for this nation.

america, fuck yeah! is not good enough. it's psychotic.

By droopy on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 03:19 am:

so "america, fuck no!" is the rational alternative?

and does not besmirch the infallible wisdom of the founding fathers.

By dave. on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 03:45 am:

yeah, smartass. maybe it is the rational alternative. if by "america" you mean returning to the late 1800-early 1900, robber baron, mussolini admiring, truman-coolidge-hoover industrialist puppet, fascist, free market economical failure that the current administration is driving us toward, then "fuck no" is appropriate.

By Nate on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 10:00 am:

i was just going to relate an amusing anecdote i recently heard about mussolini, but then i realized it was from that x-files where the guy finds a djini chick rolled up in a rug and wishes for a boat and invisibility and gets hit by a truck.

the american flag has been taken by the neo-con movement. what it stands for in the hearts of many americans is defiled by how it is being used to forward our march towards totalitarianism.

i'm not going to tattoo certian sacred hindu symbols on my chest solely because hitler coopted the swastika and it is now burned into western consciousness as a symbol of the nazi party.

i love what the american flag stands for. i dispise what it is currently being used for. i think dave.'s attitude is complacent. as complacent as those who fly the flag, proud of bush and the nation because the idea of an american president who is patently evil is so fundamentally disturbing that they will do anything to ignore it.

i think a constitutional ban on flag burning is the only way to make it constitutionally OK to ban this speech, and it is disturbing that it even has a chance of passing the senate. here you really start to see dave.'s point, in that the consitution is in a very basic way America. it is the corner stone in a nearly literal sense, and whenever it is changed the nature of america changes in a fundamental way.

i am sure it is horrifying for some veterans to see a flag burning. it is definitely disrespectful to burn a flag. but it is unamerican to abridge someone's opportunity to disrespect. it should never be illegal, never be criminal.

but, maybe it can cause damage. and maybe that damage can be recouped with civil tort law. that should be the only recourse. not some crazy swipe at the basic code of the nation.

By spiracle on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 11:43 am:

well..atleast we can all agree most of us are against the ban on flag burning..

dave..and i don't mean canada for crying out loud..ofcourse, if you got more up close and personal with their socialist health care you'd realize it sucks ass..

i went to a country where they made gum illegal..i was freaking out when i went over the border..i'd forgotten to throw out my gum contraband..

go visit someplace like THAT and you'll have more appreciation for what you can do and say in the u.s.

but, dave, i appreciate your thoughts on this..and i hope you appreciate the fact that you're allowed to have those thoughts..

and when i fly my flag this weekend..hopefully images of your ballsack in my head won't ruin it for me..

By TBone on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 12:36 pm:

By patrick on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 12:40 pm:

this is a very bad news/headline week.

    military recruiting databases
    anti american amendments
    lies about the ongoing war
china bids to buy super large american oil co.

we're selling our collective souls at such an alarming rate. jesus christ.

By Nate on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 01:16 pm:

that supreme court decision is rather scary.

    and left-winged.

By TBone on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 01:26 pm:

    It's scary indeed.

It's crazy-winged. The taking of private land for public use is certainly left-winged, but this is taking of private land for private use. The only requirement is that it might concievably encourage economic growth. What it ends up meaning is that the rich and influential can now take property if they want it.

By patrick on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 01:37 pm:

    oh yeah, forgot about that.

By droopy on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 02:09 pm:

the eminent domain thing in connecticut? that is scarier to me than any flag-burning ban.

By Nate on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 02:13 pm:

it was the left-wing of the court that passed it, is all.

By wisper on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 03:31 pm:

"if you got more up close and personal with their socialist health care you'd realize it sucks ass."

    ooh, ho ho ho!
your system is ever so much better, i presume???
just going to ignore every report and study consistantly calling it the best system ON EARTH, are you?

    ON-FUCKING-EARTH. YOU FUCKING COCK.
Best health system EVER concieved of by human kind thus far: socialist healthcare.
    See- Canada and Norway.

    right then. jolly good.

By dave. on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 03:42 pm:

up there. i meant wilson, not truman.

was there ever any doubt that the gov't could take your property if they want to? the idea that we own anything is essentially a crock of shit. what we own is the liability for any costs attributed to something. the only thing stopping the gov't from confiscating all our stuff is that it works out better for them if the public assumes responsibility for the stuff wherever possible.

By patrick on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 03:46 pm:

so swine owns my mother's liability?

    sweet.

By spiracle on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 04:16 pm:

    miss wisper..chill out..

i said no such thing about our health care being wonderful...just that so many people yearn and gush over how nice it would be to have a socialist health care..and it is great..so long as nothing seriously is wrong with you..

how about those 6 month waiting lists for serious surgeries..(which, i might add, in socialism can be avoided if you have the cash and go to a private doctor/hospital)so..again..the wealthy win that system too!

i had someone say to me, who is under such a health system, if you didn't have the cash to go to a private doctor and you had something like *gasp* cancer..then you were basically screwed..(6 month waiting list for chemo!?)

so quit acting like your health system is the bees knees...

By Nate on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 04:35 pm:

if we had socialized healthcare in the US it would negatively impact healthcare across the globe.

we (the US government) already pays more per capita on healthcare than Canada. the US taxpayer subsidizes Canadian prescriptions. we subsidize drugs for most of the world.

By wisper on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 04:50 pm:

i see you've fully researched this.
    i concede.

By Antigone on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 04:57 pm:

Here's my opinion on the eminent domain SCOTUS thang. The majority basically said, "You fuckers want fascism? OK, here ya go!"

Now, I'm not happy with the decision, but I find it funny that the people crying the loudest about it are the right wing. They've been having a firesale of our civil liberties since 9/11, but take away their stuff? HELL NO! You can't take away my STUFF!!

    What a bunch of pussies.

By droopy on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 05:24 pm:

have i told you my story of trying to get a wheelchair through medicare? in the 20 years i've been rolling my happy ass around i've never seen such a muddled mess. every entity involved - the guy selling the chair, the manufacturer, my doctor, and the various worker bees at medicare and social security - seem to have no idea of what went on outide of their own world. "i just tighten the nut and it rolls down the conveyor belt. i don't know where it goes or what it becomes."

and everything is everybody else's fault.

and don't expect us to be worked up over your problems, because your lucky to get this.

and you never see anybody. everything is done through faxes, mail, or phone.

so one day i would get a letter from south carolina. "your request for a wheelchair has been refused." i have to call south carolina, on my dime, to find out why. "line 36 on your application wasn't initialed by your doctor. have it initialed and send it back. if we find something else wrong with it you are not allowed to apply again for 6 months.

meanwhile the chair is falling apart. one day one side of the back rest snaps off. i go to see if i can get it fixed. turns out, the company that built this chair went out of business. healthcare companies or stores are always going out of business. so i found a guy to drill out a couple of pipes for me to shove up the tubing of the backrest and re-attach it. oh yeah, and the upholstery is coming apart. you know how hard it is to find anybody to re-upholster a wheelchair? i even went to a guy in a wheelchair and he couldn't do it.

but i finally got my chair.

so i guess the system works.

but i've already set up a special wheelchair reserve account for my next wheelchair. they cost between 3 and 4 thousand. one of those "a dollar here, a five there" things.

next time, it's cold, hard cash. motherfucker

By eri on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 06:01 pm:

Haven't read the whole thread yet, not enough time right now, but I read the link to the last one and Spunky's entry.

    ROFLMAO.

By patrick on Friday, June 24, 2005 - 06:06 pm:

it probably goes without saying, but i'd buy you a 12 pack o beer or a bottle of jack anytime droop.

just as it probably goes without saying your extended peoples here in sorabji would help with other things should south carolina try and screw you out of it.

i hope i conveyed that without insulting any of your conventional sensibilities.

By droopy on Saturday, June 25, 2005 - 03:22 am:

i never refuse a drink, thank you.

though i don't know of what help anyone here could've been with the bureau of refusals in south carolina.

my conventional sensibility is that help or aid is better as a concept than a reality.

By V on Saturday, June 25, 2005 - 06:38 pm:

Its about time some guy made a "Lexus" whellchair...you know,a no problemo motivator....fuck,if no one builds it,I will..

By jack on Saturday, June 25, 2005 - 07:18 pm:

ok, go ahead. that would be great. that's very nice of you.

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 11:36 am:

jack, you just want to get in my pants.

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 11:38 am:

    false.
    and stupid.

    as usual.

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 11:39 am:

    so, v.

are you going to build that deluxe wheelchair, or are you full of bullshit, as usual?

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 12:13 pm:

No,I will build it,its a viable idea, but you are still gay,and have a fat ass.,you know,I tend to see you as a gay,Jabba the hut.

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 02:05 pm:

    ...eat shit,you queer boy asshole.

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 02:16 pm:

......and what was that classic Sorabji troll saying?...eat hot fuck?......its yours, boy.

By droopy on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 03:18 pm:

    now, boys. none of this.

it threatens to draw attention away from me.

here, i've got projects for the both of you.

v: you know what i really want? a manual elevator (or lift). like a platform with a chain and block-and-tackle pulley system (sort of like a large, open dumbwaiter) that would allow we to raise myself at least 1 story using just my arm strength. someone offered to build me one years ago, but i never took him up on it.

jack: my gay cousin in austin needs a gay house builder. she's been trying to build a house on in the woods for the past 2 years and has already gone through two guys. if you can be any help at all it get you into the fast track of the austin gay community.

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 03:26 pm:

well, i did come up with this

    i'm always happy to help.

By droopy on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 03:41 pm:

well, you didn't try very hard.

besides, i already knew about web sites like lambda business

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 04:06 pm:

yes, well, help is often better as a concept than as a reality. of course.

By droopy on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 04:16 pm:

heh. i know. i'm sorry if i'm annoying you. shit, i sounded like exactly the kind of people who annoy me.

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 04:21 pm:

i hear that it's quite fun to be annoyed.

By droopy on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 04:29 pm:

    yeah, i had heard that.

you must be having a ball, here.

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 04:35 pm:

you mean because it's fun to be the object of obsession? well, i'm used to it, anyway.
you must be having a grand time, yourself, sir.

By heather on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 04:46 pm:

    you all confuse me

    i'm gonna go eat toast

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 04:47 pm:

    here's to toast!

By droopy on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 04:50 pm:

    a toast.

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 05:18 pm:

...no tost for jack,he likes boys under 12 years old.

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 05:18 pm:

you're itching for legal action, aren't you?

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 05:57 pm:

The U.S.A law courts have no juridiction over U,K, courts, eat shit, fuckhead.

By jack on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 05:59 pm:

who said anything about USA courts? not me.

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 06:20 pm:

...admit it,I am fuckng smart,da,tavarich?..you do not do homework,do you?I do,its why v has 10 times more money than you.

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 06:32 pm:

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 06:39 pm:

    ...like I say,v loves a war.

By droopy on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 06:44 pm:

wars generally involve more than two people. drag your lithuanian ass back over to the "jack is fat and gay" thread.

By V on Sunday, June 26, 2005 - 07:10 pm:

Mr Droopy, yes,I do this, but still I want to kill him "fat and gay" means dead to me.

    "peasant"

By Cat on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 - 04:29 am:

    Ok this is very dull.

V, you suck gnarly toe jam. And you're definitely quite the gayboi.

By semillama on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 - 08:43 am:

his crush on Jack is kinda cute though.

By Cat on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 - 08:59 am:

Yeah. I guess. (sigh) I'm just jealous.

By jack on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 - 06:11 pm:

no need to be jealous, cat.

you can have a crush on me, too. there's plenty to go around. i'm sure your crushes are more interesting than...some creatures' crushes.

By Cat on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 - 08:54 am:

    My crushes are horrid.

But I haven't had one for ages now.

By V on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 - 12:40 pm:

    jack,like I say,eat hot fuck.

By V on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 - 12:42 pm:

...I expect most nights you do.

By Cat on Thursday, June 30, 2005 - 05:27 am:

I expect V spends most nights thinking about hot fucking Jack.

By hot fucking jack on Thursday, June 30, 2005 - 07:06 am:

most nights? most of the time, more likely.

By V on Thursday, June 30, 2005 - 08:58 am:

...so cat is a 2nd persona of jack,I have understanding of this for a long time, both gay,da?

By Cat on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 05:03 am:

But you obviously have no understanding how to check IPs.

    Dadadumbobumbo.

By jack on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 07:11 am:

(he doesn't even know what IPs are)

wrong again, v. do you ever know what you're talking about?

anyone who can read can see that cat has been posting here much longer than jack has. a person of average intelligence spending as much time as you obviously spend here would notice that.

    what a dope.

By patrick on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 01:27 pm:

for the record, i spend my nights thinking about hot fucking jack.

V, you nailed it on the head.

cat is jack and jack is cat.

    fuckin hot fuck man.

By V on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 05:10 pm:

patrick,o.k.,now and then patrick and v have disputes, but mostly,v tends to side with patrick,is a fact...so what is problem with jack?...gay?and wont admit it? like yourself Mr.patrick,v is no fool, I just wish to understand facts..as also you do.

By V on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 05:27 pm:

..so Mr.patrick, you find out somthing about jack?

By jack on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 06:35 pm:

    patrick is nate.

actually, there are only three people posting here other than you, v. that's how we always know who your alteregos are.
most of the world is blocked from this site.
