I just asked Andy last night while we were playing
trivia if Ford was still alive. He said yes. He lied.

    interesting.

we were listening to "the areas of my expertise" last night while driving home and john hodgman said, at one point, that president ford died. i can't remember exactly when he said ford died but i remember thinking, "is he dead? no, because i remember a headline earlier this year where he surpassed reagan as the oldest president".

then i got home and saw that he died today.

oh by the way, get this.

it's a free download on itunes. worth every penny.

he is the answer to my favorite presidential trivia question: Who was the only unelected president?
Ford was never elected. nowadays, though, people answer by saying that the current president was not elected, either...

But...neither Johnson was elected, and neither were McKinley's and Garfield's replacements. What am I not getting?

Johnson and the rest were elected president for their next full term after taking over from the VP job. Ford was appointed speaker of the house, and replaced Spiro Agnew, then lost his only election to Jimmy Carter. He was never elected president.

this is how i've heard it.

eight presidents have died in office, either by assassination or natural causes: (in chronological order) harrison, taylor, lincoln, garfield, mckinley, harding, f.d. roosevelt, kennedy.

of the vice presidents succeding them, four served out the term and were not elected president the next term: tyler, fillmore, andrew johnson, arthur
