I thought he had already died? Am I thinking of someone else?

He was an amazing writer. I never did get through Infinite Jest, but I read enough to recognize his brilliance. I'm betting that he was severely bipolar.

i got several hundred pages into infinite jest and was mostly bored and annoyed with the exceessive use of footnotes as it made for a mostly unpleasant read. Clearly a lot of people who are a lot smarter than I attest to his "genius" but i cannot say one way or another.

    obviously he was troubled.

I never cared for his fiction, but I love his
