Just got DSL from Verizon last night, and it wasn't the horror show everybody claims it is to set up. Had it up and running in 20 minutes. Get pretty decent speed, about 550k although I'm supposed to get 640/90 in a perfect world. Pretty cool to talk on the phone and surf at the same time.

did they make you go ppp? i quit dsl and went to cable because usworst was forcing everyone to ppp access and that wasn't what i signed up for. cable's cheaper and way faster. i was getting 640 to 740 with dsl, now i get 2200 to 3800 with cable. upload is crap but there's an uncapper that's been circulating lately that's supposed to eliminate the upload cap. all of the .mp3 newsgroups but no warez newsgroups. i guess they figure kiddie porn is ok but cutting into profits of software manufacturers is a no-no. at least premium newsservers are pretty cheap.

I swapped over to USwest DSL - I like the speed, but I'm not sure about the roaming IP. It's nice to have a variable IP so that the dewdz can't haxor my machine, but I liked having a static IP, so I could have more than one machine up on my connect. Ah well, it's nice for gaming.

i'm getting my equipment next week for DSL. we don't have cable available out here. DSL was just brought in. Telocity. static IP.

Yeah, it'd be nice to have a static IP, but I'm not going to be running a webserver or sharing the internet connection with another computer, so it don't matter to me. Actually, I should call them up and see if they'll do it though -- probably will for the right price.

In two weeks when we get our new DSL set up as opposed to the shitter we had, we'll be rockin' with 4 static IPs, custom reverse DNS and 256k/s both up and down.

i got adsl in sweden nd downstream is 3 mbit and upstream its 1.5 mbit so dont blam dsl its lots faster than ccaable
