Tintin is coming!

sorabji.com: Reasons to be cheerful: Tintin is coming!

    JOY

I wonder how they will answer the eternal question -- how old is Tintin? Is he a young boy or a grown man? If the former, where are his parents? How did he get his job as a journalist? If the latter, why does he look like a boy?

Whom will they cast? There had better be a good Capt. Haddock, is all.

What will the story be? I'm partial to "Red Rackham's Treasure," myself, but that's because it's Haddock-centric and about pirates.

Cleo loves TinTin. I can never actually read the things, but I admire the drawing style of whateverhisname is.

By agatha on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 - 03:05 pm:

I envision PeeWee Herman as an excellent TinTin, but the chances of him getting any roles now are pretty minimal, I suppose.

By Spider on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 - 03:58 pm:

How come you can't read them, Agatha?

Have you and Cleo ever seen any of the videos? You can find them on ebay.

By agatha on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 - 04:04 pm:

I've just never managed to get around to reading them. Some day...

Cleo's current fave is Tin Tin and the Prisoner of the Sun.

Nope. I didn't know there were any videos. Very interestink, I wonder if the library has any...

By Spider on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 - 04:15 pm:

Oh, I see -- I thought it was a problem with the print. (My dad and I are like that -- we don't read certain newspaper comics because of the handwriting of the print.)

I have the Prisoner of the Sun! Has Cleo read Tintin and the Seven Crystal Balls? (That's the prequel.)

This is a really good website.

I got to read some Tintin in French in highschool, I like the English better because I can understand it more.

His dog is so cute. I forget its name.

By Spider on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 - 08:30 am:

In English it's Snowy. I think it's Milou in French.

I like the way he barks. "WOAH! WOAH!"

By Gee on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 - 10:56 am:

Tintin is a dork. Really. He's such a big dork. He's not a Real comic book character.

By Spider on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 - 11:16 am:

Oh, yeah? I'll have you know, he is one of the oldest comic book characters still around -- he first appeared in 1929. His books have been translated into 40+ languages, and he's even appeared on stamps (Belgium has a stamp with his picture right now as we speak), and kids around the world just love him.

And he's smart, and cute, and he has funny friends and a cute dog who love him, and he goes on adventures, and he solves mysteries......and the mysteries are good, too. No pandering to stupid children, here -- you have to pay attention.

    So there!

in france you can go see TinTin's castle. Or just drive past it, at least. It's really big and impressive.

By Gee on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 - 02:48 pm:

but he looks like such a weenie! how could I ever take him seriously??

By Spider on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 - 03:02 pm:

He is not a weenie! How can you not see his little button eyes and upturned tuft of hair as adorable? Look how cute he is!

I'm going home. We can continue this debate later. :Þ

i agree that he's creepy, especially that real life guy that Spider posted above. Holy shit.

but it is for kids, and kid stuff is usually creepy, especially kids stuff from Europe.
    Like Teletubbies.
