By jack on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 01:54 am:

jack likes whatever is playing, thanks.

if he doesn't, and it intrudes, he vacates the premises. as does his entourage.

seriously: have you no sense? you should be able to figure that much out on your own.

By V on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 02:31 am:

AH,you mean I have to work out what music you like? from your postings?....o.k.,,,,,,mostly QUEEN,the exact track that you want will take 24 hours to permutate, but I will find it.

By jack on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 04:58 pm:

what is this QUEEN? is that like RuPaul?

jack likes right said fred because he's too sexy for his shirt, among other things.

droopy and the ass-kickers are a really good band.

By Spider on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 04:59 pm:

Jack, I am bemused by your font changes. I have found this BBS' knowledge of fonts (or however you want to describe it when the thing actually recognizes the code) to be limited. And I'm speaking discreetly and diplomatically when I employ the word "limited."

I want this to be in Gill Sans, not Comic Sans, for the love of all that's holy.

It looks like it will only accept typeface names that are one word.

But they can't be too obscure.

And they can't be Univers, a choice which, I admit, I should applaud. I hate Univers. Almost as much as I hate Mistral. GAAAAH. I hate Mistral more than I hate Comic Sans. I can tolerate Comic Sans because of the good association with this place. Mistral is irredeemable.

Can I state for the record that I think Tori Amos is a creative and skillful composer and pianist, but the moment she opens her mouth I want to give her a tracheotomy with a ballpoint pen? Thanks.

Wow, this post is almost entirely devoid of content.

By jack on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 05:09 pm:

"It looks like it will only accept typeface names that are one word."

    au contraire, mademoiselle!

"Wow, this post is almost entirely devoid of content."

    specialty of the house, indeed!

By jack on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 05:27 pm:

    wow! now this is wacky!

i can't recall mistral but i've never used it so i must agree with you on that score. i seem to have an unpleasant association with it.

spider: did you ever check out ellen lupton?

wouldn't it be annoying if this were the default? in pink?

    "numanuma numanuma fat and gay"

    that looks horrible.

    what are you doing?

what do you think on what i wrote?

    recipes:

    'Moqueca'
    (for about 8 people)

„Ï 2 kg fish (grouper or shark)
    „Ï Lime drops
    „Ï 1/2 teaspoon salt
„Ï ground black pepper (in Brazil we have an "white" "black pepper" - prefer it)
„Ï 3 seedless redpeppers, sliced (rings)
„Ï 1 kg ripe tomatoes (hard), sliced (round)
„Ï 5 medium size onions, sliced (rings)
    „Ï 2 tbsp chopped coriander
    „Ï 2 tbsp chopped parsley
    „Ï 2 tbsp chopped chive
    „Ï 1 cup oil
    „Ï 250ml coconut-milk
    „Ï 5 tbsp 'dende'-oil

(you can cook without dende, but it's not gonna be what it should be - dende is extracted from an african oilpalm (Elaeis guineensis) - I don't know if it is available where you are)

Cut fish into thick slices (ca. 2 fingers), season with lime, salt and pepper. Let stand in fridge for 1 hour. In a bowl, mix red peppers, onions and tomatoes. Add coriander, parsley and chive. Mix well. Spread some of the mixture over the bottom of a 'clay'-pan (large). Add one layer of fish, and one layer of the mixture, successively. Pour oil and cook on top of the oven, at low heat, for 30 minutes. Turn oven off, cover tightly, and let stand for ca. 2 hours. Turn oven on, when it starts to boil, add the coconut milk and the dende-oil. Cook for ca. 15 minutes more. Taste if fish is well cooked. Serve with white rice.

By V on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 07:41 pm:

By jack on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 10:21 pm:

queen sounds kinda gay, don't they?

they were pretty good, but, really, vanilla ice did a much better job.

By jack on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 10:59 pm:

"body language" is an awesome song, though.

By V on Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 01:24 am:

jack,I allways found "Vanilla Ice" a bit creepy, like reincarnated Vietnam Veterans, back from the dead.

By V on Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 01:44 am:

...Fred Mercury, lead singer of Queen was indeed gay,but what a voice!...jack ,give me your best songs,EVER.

By jack on Monday, December 4, 2006 - 01:04 am:

bad fonts? whatever do you mean? how strange these comments are.

v, jack is so far out he fits right in anywhere. jack is a serious insider, dude. your list is a bit closer to reality than your usual drooling nonsensical ravings, but you don't know jack.

By V on Monday, December 4, 2006 - 12:04 pm:

jack,v posted "outsider" more as a compliment than an insult,I happen to like extroverts,I am one my self,my vision of an extrovert is a person that has not been massed produced, like a plastic moulding, they are unique,a "one of a kind",I find most people are zombies, dont you?

By V on Monday, December 4, 2006 - 12:25 pm:

jack, most Sorabjis just want a bit of your background, unless you want to remain a "high plains drifter" forever, that was a Clint Eastwood film, about a ghost gunslinger.

By V on Monday, December 4, 2006 - 12:38 pm:

jack, with out you and me,hardly any one posts, did you notice that?

By Dougie on Monday, December 4, 2006 - 08:03 pm:

    Gee, I wonder why, V?

By jack on Monday, December 4, 2006 - 09:38 pm:

    no, i didn't notice that.

    gee, I wonder why, v?

...v just gets so pissed off at being the only smart person online.,why I post to retards I dont know.

By ... on Thursday, December 7, 2006 - 03:39 am:

the doctor said i have "significant change" to the macula, meaning it is warped and slowly getting fried. i have to see a retinal specialist/surgeon asap, but surgery is probably not the first option right now (almost said "firsto") because what are they gonna do, give me a new macula? i am a little depressed about it but enjoy making fun of myself by asking friends "Who is that? Speak up, I can't see you!" then waving my hands like a lunatic and snarling, looking at them from an 80-degree angle. Laughs aplenty, and at my expense, as it should be.

By Nate on Thursday, December 7, 2006 - 11:13 am:

    fucking hell, man.

By sarah on Thursday, December 7, 2006 - 11:55 am:

is it the macula in both eyes, or just one?

in june the FDA approved a new drug called... shit i can't remember... that was developed to treat macular degeneration.

i just looked it up, it's called Lucentis.

interesting how they name drugs, btw. lucentis. lucent.

    macular. immaculate.

anyway, do you know what caused this? is it in your family? and what is your prognosis?

By Nate on Thursday, December 7, 2006 - 02:30 pm:

i wouldn't rub 'shit i can't remember' in my eyes.

    imagine.

By ... on Friday, December 8, 2006 - 02:06 am:

he said it's in both eyes, but worse on the right side. an ophtalmologist can't really do much else, though, beyond saying that that ain't right. the first doctor from the summer told me to gorge out on Lutein supplements and Omega 3s, and I have, but there is no way to know if that stuff is doing anything. at best it might control what damage is already done, but it has a certain hippie juju about it that makes me think it's nonsense. i have to say that Lutein does make my eyeballs feel fabulous, which is kinda weird to think about your eyeballs feeling like anything. but it appears to be worse now than it was 5-6 months ago.

this doctor suggested that i should be experiencing no significant symptoms *yet* but i don't know about that. i think maybe he was trying to be positive (and he was strictly by-the-book about being a nice guy).

there is a very large and pronounced spot that appears once in a while right in that line of sight where i would expect a MD spot to be. yesterday i was walking down some stairs and i thought someone had thrown a racquetball into my path, the spot was that huge. but the spot is not always there, and i guess it would be constant if it was related to this.

his pronouncement that i should not be experiencing symptoms (and yet i think i am) only bothers me because they say this type of MD can accelerate very quickly (weeks or even a few days), and i can't get a retinal specialist appointment until the 20th.

lately i am also experiencing cloudy vision, and i can't always read words on paper for very long at a time because they get whited over. not completely whited over, but stuff gets surrounded by cloudiness. i've had that condition in various degrees since childhood, though. i used to get migraines and they were usually preceded by that whiteness virtually consuming my usable vision.

i know about Lucentis. I listen to Paul Harvey's radio show. his demographic largely comprises the 80+ set, and maybe because of that he often references treatments and breakthroughs in macular degeneration. Lucentis sounds like a miracle cure (i almost spelled that Pucentis), but it has rude possible side effects and it is only for the wet form of MD. I haven't seen a doctor yet who can tell me which type I have - there are 2 types, wet and dry, and all things considered i probably have the wet one... uh huh huh

Lucentis costs $2000 *per dose* and something tells me my insuror's $7 generics/$30 brand name prescription plan won't cover more than minimum wage of that. it's only one dose per month, though, and i'm not making enough money these days to cover for that kind of thing but could pull such a wad of cash out of my ass if i had to. a few months ago i found $5000 worth of quarters, dimes, and nickels under my bed. very heavy and unwieldy but i managed to get it all to the bank.

when i first heard about Lucentis i had the impression you needed one dose per day, at $60,000/month, but i was wrong.

blah blah blah, who the fuck knows. there is no family history but that's generally irrelevant.

what's weird about it is that you don't just fade to black. your vision gets obstructed by splotches and you have to look at things from an angle to see them -- that's what i meant by the looking at people from an 80 degree angle thing. ok i am going to consume as much internet pornography as possible between now and whenever.

oh, wait, my eyeballs are wasted on the table, alas

By J on Friday, December 8, 2006 - 03:49 pm:

If you do need that Lucentis,I will do my best to try and score it for you from Mexico.

By sarah on Friday, December 8, 2006 - 04:16 pm:

By sarah on Friday, December 8, 2006 - 04:19 pm:

MD occurs more frequently in people who have a family history of MD, that's why i asked. you're pretty young to have MD.

i wonder why, besides the obvious rip-off-ness of the industry, lucentis would be so expensive? what about it makes it so costly?

    perhaps simply demand...

    what are the side effects?

anyway, i hope it doesn't get worse before your appointment on the 20th. let us know how it goes.

By heather on Friday, December 8, 2006 - 10:24 pm:
