i just found out that robert ealey died. the first, probably the only, time i ever played real blues was with this guy a j&j blues bar many years ago. it was open mic night - this is not as egalitarian as it sounds, it's actually more of a chance for the more established players to jam - but they finally let me play. the stage was so high off the ground that i just parked my chair on the dance floor and they ran a cord down to me. by this time i was pretty drunk, but they tell me i played on key.
