    dudley moore died -
well, he could be funny with peter cook.

    milton berle died -
    yay.

billy wilder died. director of the apartment, some like it hot, sunset boulevard, double indemnity, stalag 17, sabrina, etc. born in austria. his given name, i am led to believe, is actually billy wilder - a name his parents picked up from the american movies they loved. made his first films in europe. as a jew, he fled nazism and came to america. at heart, his films were fed by a dark, cynical view of human nature.

a few years ago i saw a clip of him receiving some award. it was a small affair; he was very old and looked bored and umimpressed by what was going on. he was given his award, stood up and said:

man goes to his doctor and says, "i can't pee anymore." doctor says, "how old are you?" the man says, "i'm 92 years old." [wilder's age at the time.] the doctor says, "you've peed enough."

    and sat back down.

Don't forget "Queen Mum" on Saturday. That was sad.

By Johnny Carson on Monday, April 1, 2002 - 02:59 pm:

    How sad was it?

By eri on Monday, April 1, 2002 - 07:40 pm:

Like we need another major change in the world right now? Suicide bombings in Israel. Israel entering Bethlemem in tanks. "War on Terror" confusing and complicating. People dying in war, lets just let Britan's oldest monarch join them? Yeah, it is sad. Too many freaking changes in the world right now. I am about to have an anxiety attack.

its amazing, your compassion for some 100 year matriarch in a country that you can't even call your own and your lack of it for tens of thousands of people who are in your country illegally.

i don't consider anyone 100+ years old dying "sad". I consider it "better" for them.

Queen Mum was cool. We had the same birthday. There is a photo of her at aged 90-something, with a Mickey Mouse band-aid on. Thats the kind of grown up I want to be.

the royal family are little more than privileged parasites living off the tax dollars of british citizens.

isn't that pretty much the root of the general contempt for illegal immigrants in the U.S.?

to hell with the old cooch.

i'll never understand the american fascination with those prancing little snot-nosed blueblood bitch asses.

if you're gonna criticize on points of principle, you should at least be consistent.

By eri on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 - 03:07 pm:

Did I praise the royal family or say it was sad that she died? Even though it may have been a blessing for her, it is a major change and is sad. My beliefs on illegal immigrants have nothing to do with whether or not I feel that it is sad that someone died.
