I think that this article is a must read, see if you can figure out who the group is from the article. It also is a good example of how perspective changes the meaning of actions.

Oh my god, I haven't seen this article in years. I read it when I was a sophmore in college when I took Anthro 101

    Wow. I love it.

I was fortunate enough to have been able to visit one of these shrines, while I was studying anthro.

And frankly, I was so fascinated, that to this very day, I imitate some of their rituals.

i bet nate can give us a live on-site post from one of these shrines. perhaps he can describe what he sees.

I think thats a ritual that should be kept "secret".No point in frightening children, and those with a weak constitution.

By Nate on Monday, September 8, 2003 - 03:17 pm:

this is obviously one of the poorer shrines, as there is no stonework to be found.

i am, however, in the process of laying brick.

    Outstanding.

you know, they failed to mention that the privacy of the sacred shrine rituals (as well as the avoiding of bodily exposure) is given a four-year hiatus when shrines are shared to enhance the sense of community in those about to emerge into the adult Nacirema society.
