I'm not really happy about this.

Yeah, well it just jumped into my head. Thanks a lot you asshole!

    Nlly:
After reading your post I've listened to it at least six times. Then after that I listened to a bunch of 80's greatest hits CDs.

The problem now? One of the songs was 'Don't worry be happy' (Bobby McFerrin). Now I'm singing it silently, thinking about when I first heard it. (I always associate songs with events!?!?) Kansas City. Vacation. Worlds of Fun. Oceans of Fun. Hot Summer. Omaha. Lots of corn. I ate like a pig. Come on summer...

    Thanks. Really.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...

By Lester on Friday, April 10, 1998 - 10:24 am:
Jeez, sorry. I didn't mean to implicate others in my silent agony.

"We Built This City" - Starship

    <CHORUS:>
We built this city, we built this city on rock an' roll
Built this city, we built this city on rock an' roll

Say you don't know me, or recognize my face
Say you don't care who goes to that kind of place
Knee deep in the hoopla, sinking in your fight
Too many runaways eating up the night

Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We built this city, we built this city on rock an' roll

    <CHORUS>

    Someone's always playing corporation games
Who cares they're always changing corporation names
We just want to dance here, someone stole the stage
They call us irresponsible, write us off the page

Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We built this city, we built this city on rock an' roll

    <CHORUS>

It's just another Sunday, in a tired old street
Police have got the choke hold, oh, and we just lost the beat

Who counts the money underneath the bar
Who rides the wrecking ball into our guitars
Don't tell us you need us, 'cos we're just simple fools
Looking for America, crawling through your schools

(I'm looking out over that Golden Gate bridge
Out on a gorgeous sunny Saturday, I've seen that low amount of traffic)

    Don't you remember (remember)

(Here's your favorite radio station, in your favorite radio city
The city by the bay, the city that rocks, the city that never sleeps)

Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We built this city, we built this city on rock an' roll

    <chorus repeats 2x>

(We built, we built this city) built this city (we built, we built this city)
    (repeats and fades out)

"Don't Worry, Be Happy" - Bobby McFerrin

    Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
    Don't worry, be happy.
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
    Don't worry, be happy.
    Don't worry, be happy now.

CHORUS: Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy.
Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy.

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
    Don't worry, be happy.
The landlord say your rent is late
    He may have to litigate
    Don't worry, be happy.

CHORUS: (Look at me -- I'm happy. Don't worry, be happy.
Here I give you my phone number. When you worry, call me,
I make you happy. Don't worry, be happy.)

Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got no gal to make you smile
    Don't worry, be happy.
'Cause when you worry your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
    Don't worry, be happy.

CHORUS: (Don't worry, don't worry, don't do it.
Be happy. Put a smile on your face.
    Don't bring everybody down.
Don't worry. It will soon pass, whatever it is.
    Don't worry, be happy.
    I'm not worried, I'm happy...)

    --------------------

Hey, anytime. Don't mention it. No really, thanks are not needed. Oh, pshaw you're too kind. No no, YOU rule. Well, *blush* golly thanks. ;)

Hehe, so sue me, I'm bored!

    who's high online?

the song "Sarah" on the album with We Built This City is permanently engrained in my brain. Seems when i was a boy i really dug this girl named Sarah. so i listend to the song a lot.

now whenever i hear the name sarah my brain burps "sarah saaaaaarah storms are brewing in your eyes"

    fuck. it's like a disability.

By Carrie Ann on Friday, August 28, 1998 - 06:48 pm:

I love that song, Deto. Teehee. And since I don't wanna be selfish, I feel it necessary to share this joy with you... so here, this is just for you. *grin*

    "Sara" - Starship

Go now, don't look back, we've drawn the line
Move on, it's no good to go back in time

I'll never find another girl like you, for happy endings it takes two
We're fire and ice, the dream won't come true

    CHORUS:
Sara, Sara, storms are brewin' in your eyes
Sara, Sara, no time is a good time for goodbyes

Danger in the game when the stakes are high
Branded, my heart was branded while my senses stood by

I'll never find another girl like you, for happy endings it takes two
We're fire and ice, the dream won't come true

Sara, Sara, storms are brewin' in your eyes
Sara, Sara, no time is a good time, oh
Sara, Sara, storms are brewin' in your eyes
Sara, Sara, no time is a good time for goodbyes

('Cos Sara) Loved me like no one has ever loved me before
(And Sara) Hurt me, no one could ever hurt me more
    (And Sara)Sara!
(And Sara) Sara, nobody loved me anymore

    (Solo)

I'll never find another girl like you
We're fire and ice, the dream won't come true

Sara, Sara, no time is a good time, oh

    CHORUS

Sara, Sara, storms are brewin' in your eyes
Sara, Sara, no time is a good time, no
Ooh Sara, why did it, why did it, why did it all fall apart...

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

There, now was that so bad? Ok, so maybe I'm just getting everyone back for always coming up to me and singing "Hey Carrie-Anne, what's your game now? Can anybody play.. la la la" (by The Hollies) :P

By Bryan on Monday, August 31, 1998 - 01:54 pm:

"We Built This City" has got to be one of the more frightening AOR tunes you'd be hard pressed to name (.."Weeds" column anyone?). A friend of mine played in a local band that opened up for them (and the Outfield *ouch* ...does anyone remember them?) and, while watching them from the wings do their opening number ("We Built this City" of course), there was this dude tucked snugly out of sight in the wings behind a huge bank of keyboards and electronic equipment who cued the band with a "one, two, three" countdown before the song and, according to my buddy, was practically playing the fucking song. Pretty pathetic. He did say, that they tended to jam out a little bit on some of their more classic earlier tunes, but overall...

By Bryan on Monday, August 31, 1998 - 01:57 pm:

Oh, and I forgot to ask...

Do you people actually KNOW these lyrics from memory?

    Please...please tell me "No"

    ..oh yes, the horror

(I can feel dust in the wind blowing gently in my hair and in the distance the lights are going down in the cit-ay....carry on my wayward son...)

By Carrie Ann on Monday, August 31, 1998 - 02:48 pm:

Well, I COULD take credit for remembering the lyrics to all these songs, but alas... 'tis http://www.lyrics.ch/ (International Lyrics Server) where I find them. Sad to say I do recall a great deal of songs/lyrics from my childhood though. (Born in '78 so I was a child of the 80's... wOo!)

And I'll leave you with these lil chunks...

    'TAKE ON ME' - A-Ha
    "The things that you say
Is it live or just to play
    My worries away
You're all the things I've got to remember
    You shying away
I'll be coming for you anyway
    Take on me
    (Take on me)
    Take me home
    I'll be gone...
    In a day or two"

    ----
    'FAITH' - George Michael
"Well I guess it would be nice
If I could touch your body
    I know not everybody
Has got a body like you..
But I've got to think twice
Before I give my heart away
And I know all the games you play
    Because I play them too...
    Oh but I
Need some time off from that emotion
Time to pick my heart up off the floor
And when that love comes down
    Without devotion
Well it takes a strong man baby
But I'm showing you the door
    'Cause I gotta have faith..."

    ----
'SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT' - Corey Hart
"I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can so I can
Watch you weave then breathe your story lines
And I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can so I can
Keep track of the visions in my eyes"

    ----
'WALKING ON SUNSHINE' - Katrina And The Waves
    Yeeaow ! Um Yeah !
I used to think maybe You love Me, now Baby I'm sure
And I just can't wait till the day when you knock on my door
Now everytime I go for the mailbox gotta hold Myself down
Cause I just can't wait till You write Me You're comin' around...
Now I'm Walking On Sunshine (whoa oh)
I'm Walking On Sunshine (whoa oh)
I'm Walking On Sunshine (whoa oh)
And Don't it Feel Good (Hey) (All right now) And Don't it Feel Good (Hey)
    (Yeah)"

I'd be impressed, but I know far too much Boingo, Talking Heads, Falco and Thomas Dolby by heart.

Then again, I still listen to 'em all...

By Bryan on Tuesday, September 1, 1998 - 02:08 pm:

Well...the Talking Heads, of course, had some classics and you know the main guitarist/songwriter for Katrina and the Waves was a charter member of the Soft Boys (..a "real" band Thank You), but please don't frighten me again with the brutal reality of A-Ha (how about the German lyrics for 99 Luftballons (or however you spell that) for a little linguistics challenge.

    (...Alphaville anyone?)

I'll have to check out that lyrics sight...could be amusing...

Bryan: I love that song. (99 Luftballons) I went to a concert awhile back where a group called The Retros performed and they did that song. Did I hear a request for lyrics? (I couldn't find these on that www.lyrics.ch site either. I tried though. Heh.)

    99 Luftballoons - By: Nena

Hast du etwas Zeit fuer mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer dich
    Von 99 Luftballons
    Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst du vielleicht g'rad an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer dich
    Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass sowas von sowas kommt
    99 Luftballons
    Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Hielt man fuer Ufos aus dem All
    Darum schickte ein General
    'ne Fliegerstaffel hinterher
Alarm zu geben, wenn's (sie?) war
    Dabei war'n da am Horizont
    Nur 99 Luftballons
    99 Duesenjager
    Jeder war ein grosser Krieger
    Hielten sich fuer Captain Kirk
    Das gab ein grosses Feuerwerk
    Die Nachbarn haben nichts gerafft
    Und fuehlten sich gleich angemacht
    Dabei schoss man am Horizont
    Auf 99 Luftballons
    99 Kriegsminister
    Streichholz und Benzinkanister
    Hielten sich fuer schlaue Leute
    Witterten schon fette Beute
    Riefen: Kring und wollten Macht
    Mann, wer hatte das gedacht
    Dass es einmal soweit kommt
    Wegen 99 Luftballons
    99 Jahre Krieg
    Liessen keine Platz fuer Sieger
    Kriegsminister gibt's nicht mehr
    Und auch keine Duesenflieger
    Heute zieh ich meine Runden
Seh' die Welt in Truemmern liegen
    Hab' 'nen Luftballon gefunden
Denk' an dich und lass' ihn fliegen

Ja ja das ist gut. SEHR gut. I took German from 4th grade - 6th and again 8th & 9th. (Then Japanese in High School) Hehe. I wish I had stuck with it though because I'm a tad rusty on both. (ok more than a tad. I can still speak it, but ask me to translate most of the time.. oy vey!) Oh and btw Bryan, a friend of yours Emailed me the other day. =)

Anyone else want 80's music lyrics? (Or any other in general, although no promises) This is fun.

By Carrie Ann on Wednesday, September 2, 1998 - 01:13 pm:

Ditto, Starchy.. in fact I'm listening to my 'Cool Rock' CD of 80's music right now. It was one of those mail order things from TV, I had to have it! Hehe.

Oh and Bryan you want to know what's even scarier? Someone did a remix of that A-Ha song. Turned it into some techno-remix thing. I have the mp3. Heh.

By Starchy on Thursday, September 3, 1998 - 10:29 am:

I don't remember all of it, but I do remember "Cars" by Numan (though I already have two versions of that), "Whip It", of course - it's standard for every 80's comp, and we've got Are We Not Men? on vinyl lying around somewhere, and... bleh. I can't remember. I remember drooling for a few solid seconds, though.

"Here in my car I've been starting to think about leaving tonight, about nothing seems right.."

By Bryan on Thursday, September 3, 1998 - 05:55 pm:

Very impressive linguistic jargon juggling there CarrieAnn, although I don't know any German (...well not much, though I do know how to say "your head is a glowing pumpkin" and "green, liquid shit spouts from your ears" in German...obviously very useful sayings for the intrepid traveller...). You could probably type in just about anything and I'd have to take your word for it but hey, I trust you got it right. It's also funny that you mention that A-Ha remake, because within a day or so of that post I did actually hear that, uhhh, shall we say piece of "music" and it took a second to dawn on me what it was, but I managed to quickly push a tape into the car stereo I was listening to before my brain suffered melt-down effects and permenant IQ point loss. The 80's remake thing has actually been out of hand for a long time. I knew this as soon as I heard "Send Me an Angel '95" (or '96 or whatever the hell year that came out). Talk about milking it for all its worth...smacks of frantic desperation if you ask me. Remember Real Life? How about Minor Detail (..."just like you paint a picture on the canvas of life") Ouch...

Or, for real '80's obscurity, how about Bone Symphony, The Mood, or Romanelli. Ever catch them? Some frightening phantoms of my musical listening past.

And to Starchy...I had several friends who were way (and I mean WAY) into Gary Numan. I actually had to ban the Telekon album from my stereo at one point. His first couple of albums, though a little dated, are actually still pretty cool. Check out the white Tubeway Army album. And as far as that Cars song goes, I'll have to say our boy Gary sort of hit on the mark with that one. People do seem to be transformed in some way when they're tucked away behind a couple of tons of steel. When I used to work the drive-in at a bank, I noticed that normally pleasant and decent customers often became cocky bastards when leering at you from behind the wheel. I'm sure many a psychological study has been done on this, but I still laugh a little when I hear that "Cars" song because of these observations.

By Starchy on Friday, September 4, 1998 - 12:19 pm:

I dunno... I love his early punk-ish stuff, but Replicas just blows me away every time. The way the lyrics are just infused with his bizarre sort of poignant psychotic logic always grabs me.. Except for those goddam instrumentals.

"The wreckage of a hero lies broken in a corner and everyone pretends they'd like to live that way..."

LOL! I can't believe it said Macaroni plays the mamba! I just really spent 20 minutes laughing at that!!! GEEEEZ.... maybe Ma Comby plays the mamba!!! I don't think I'll ever get over that one!
