Drunk By Noon (Lyrics by Rennie Sparks)

There once was a poodle who thought he was a cowboy,
But he lived in a cage the size of his thumb.
And, though his white horse was a box of toothpicks,
He galloped around until hit by a car.

Sometimes I flap my arms like a hummingbird
Just to remind myself I'll never fly.
Sometimes I burn my arms with cigarettes
Just to pretend I won't scream when I die.

If my life was as long as the moon's,
I'd still be jealous of the sun.
If my life lasted only one day,
I'd still be drunk by noon.

Sometimes I can't wait to come down with cancer.
At least then I'll get to watch TV all day.
And on my deathbed I'll get all the answers
Even if all my questions are taken away.

If my like was as long as the moon's,
I'd still be jealous of the sun.
If my life lasted only one day,
I'd still be drunk by noon.

    Knock 'Em Down

Well, I don't know where I am but I know my destination (3x)
Knock 'em down, Christian soldiers, knock 'em down

Well, the devil likes his liquor and he smokes a big cigar (3x)
But he's always been a real good friend of mine

If there's a hell way down below, I bet you'll see someone you know (3x)
And we'll all have a fucking good time

So knock 'em down, knock 'em down
Another dead soldier hits the ground
Because our time on earth is brief
We don't want no strife or grief
So knock 'em down, knock 'em down, knock 'em down

If there's a heaven in the air, don't expect to see me there (3x)
Knock 'em down, lords and ladies, knock 'em down

Well, I don't believe in God because he don't believe in me (3x)
And he never returns any of my calls

    (repeat chorus)

Well, I don't believe in God because he don't believe in me (3x)
And he never returns any of my calls

Well, the earth just keeps on spinning round as history repeats (3x)
Knock 'em down, cocks and chickens, knock 'em down

And I hope you'll all remember me when I am in my grave (3x)
Fill your glass, get off your ass, and knock 'em down

Knock 'em down, knock 'em down, knock 'em down (ad nauseam)

    Goddamn!

    Hung Again

I guess I'll just get hung again tonight
'Cause it's the best way that I know to turn off the light
I'll get reacquainted with the floor
    It's like a joke you've heard before
Except that you was laughing the other night

The lights are coming on along the Williamsburg
The trains sure take it slow over that bridge
Factory girls are in the street
But I just want something to eat
And I don't think that they can scratch that itch

    I don't know why I try
    Another day, another lie
It's like sticking needles in your eye

You get that sinking feeling when you're sunk
You pack your worries up inside a metal trunk
I guess I just need some time to think
I swear that I'd give up the drink
If I could find a better way to get drunk

    I don't know why I try
    Another day, another like
It's like sticking needles in your eye

    In your eeeyyyyee
    IN YOUR EEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    Soldier's Boy
(A tale of the envangelical apprenticeship of a ten-year-old boy, willing or not. Because I don't trust you people.)

    Dragged in his fathers footsteps
    Onto other people's doorsteps
    To shoe-gaze through another afternoon
He's well turned out, his pants are pressed
He's dripping in his Sunday best
As the sun beats down in time to the sound
Of his father droaning on about the problems in the world
While Kevin stands uncounted at the door

Will Kevin get to heaven any sooner?
Will father ever bother looking down?
    When he sees the light
    He sees the light

There must be empty chairs in the Kingdom Hall
What with the summer holidays the flock is gotten small
    He's marching 'round my neighborhood
With a briefcase and a boy
And Kevin doesn't share the Soldier's Joy
And I could see right through him
    The lawn was needing mowed
I closed the door and turned to watch him go

Will Kevin get to heaven any sooner?
Will father ever bother looking down?
    When he sees the light
    He sees the light
And I want him to change
I'd like him to change for me
