Bonnie Raitt and Sippie Wallace duet in this live recording from the mid 70s. Wallace, a black blues singer from the 30s, wrote the song.

"She's lovin' your man in your own damn bed.. better call for the doctor momma, try to investigate your health... WOMAN BE WISE... keep your mouth SHUT, don't advtertise your man..."

Just love it. A friend has Sippie's original recording and I can't wait to hear it.

The version I mention can be found on "The Bonnie Raitt Collection," released in 1990 following the success of Raitt's "Nick of Time" album.

Years ago, I was at the Philadelphia Folk Festival. On Sunday morning, there was a concert
called the "Gospel Sing." Both Sippie Wallace and Victoria Spivey showed up for it, wearing
high-necked lace Sunday-mornin'-goin'-to church dresses, despite the Aug. heat. Steve
Goodman played, too. It was a remarkable hour of music,as you might imagine. At the end of
the show, which was held at the bottom of a small, but rather steep valley, I approached Sippie
Wallace to ask if I could give her a hand getting up the hill, particurly since she walked with a
cane. She smiled at me, dismissing me with a wave of her hand and said, "Child, you go run and
play. This ol' woman'll make her way up the hill soon enough." It was truly like a scene from a
movie! By the way, Sippie had sung "Woman Be Wise" the day before, eyes a-twinklin',
strutting all over the stage (without her cane, I might add) the day before this happened.
    AMAZING!
