I attended this concert in D.C. this past weekend. Chaka Khan, Garth Brooks, k.d. lang, George Michael, Melissa Etheridge, Pet Shop Boys, Rufus Wainwright performed. The likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Anne Heche, Tipper Gore, Kathy Najimy, Kristen Johnston, Nathan Lane, etc gave speeches and intro'd performers.

The concert was put on by the Human Rights Campaign and was part of the Millennium March on Washington. One of the best concerts I've been too. A tad too depressing at times -- as it featured a very moving speech by Matthew Shepperd's father, and appearances by families of hate crime victims. Etheridge subbed for the late Dusty Springfield on the PSB's "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" and was GREAT! k.d. lang sang the most gorgeous song called "Right to Love," which I must find a recording of. I sure as heck hope this concert comes out on CD.

hey Jim, did you hear an estimate of how many people attended the events over the weekend? I was kinda disapointed by the lack of coverge.

By Rhiannon on Thursday, May 4, 2000 - 12:43 pm:

I just heard k.d. lang's duet with Roy Orbison on his song "Crying." very very nice.

Patrick: There was very little coverage. Even here in D.C. I would say both days totalled 1 million people, though. Good turn out.

Rhiannon: I love that duet. However, k.d. did a KILLER rendition on her own at the tribute concert to Roy shortly after his death. I have it on video somewhere and have often wished she'd release it on CD.

    Is the video released?

I remember seeing her on SNL wearing a skirt and cowboy boots, her first t.v. stint I think. She made an impression on me,k.d. that is.

I don't think so, Rhiannon. It was aired on Showtime probably close to 10 years ago now.
