    I thought they'd never end.

    :)

I'm way impressed someone knows the song I refer to.

By Markus on Wednesday, March 25, 1998 - 04:32 pm:
That chorus seems to last forever and a day.

By Sorabji on Wednesday, March 25, 1998 - 05:15 pm:
Sung by Mary Hopkin (slightly more than a one-hit wonder but not much more than that),
produced by Paul McCartney, circa 1968.
One of my favorite pop songs ever.
I heard it played over and over on the Danny Stiles (sp?) radio show late at night when I first moved to New York, but Stiles never said who sang the song or what it was called or anything. And I didn't have a phone (and suspected that his show was pre-recorded anyway) so I never called to ask. I'll never be able to hear that song without being transported back to that seedy hotel room on West 75th Street.

I finally found it on a CD called Post Card.

By Markus on Wednesday, March 25, 1998 - 06:10 pm:
Wow. Killer site. I'll be playing around there; don't look for me for the rest of the night. And the prices seem good at first glance as well. Don't look for me to be paying off the credit cards anytime soon either.

Thirteen different versions to choose from. I just wanted to hear the balalaika version. The bargain in the bunch has to be The Sensational 60's, Vol. 2 at $6.34, but then you're the owner of such priceless tracks as Wooly Bully, Hawaii Five-0, and Ferry Cross the Mersey.

And the bonus on her album is a credible version of Someone to Watch Over Me.

By Hugh Jarms on Wednesday, March 25, 1998 - 06:41 pm:
I don't know what you people are talking about, but I can't get Jean Stapleton's shrieking, shrill voice out of my head now. And I can't get streaming media here at work because of the firewall. I sure the last thing the Company wants is thousands of desktops running RealAudio all day long. Meanwhile, I have "Gettin' jiggy wid' it" going through my head. The temps have taken over my boombox and I feel like I'd be an asshole if I changed the station. Why aren't other people as aware of how obnoxious their music is as I am? I know the stuff I like is pretty annoying to the average person. But, dammit, there's annoying and then there's insipid, like Depeche Mode and Erasure, and Madonna, and the Quad City DJs. 50 more minutes to go and I'll be free from "block-rockin beats".
