Since I have 2 such knowledgeable gents at my disposal: If either Mark or Jicotea are into Nina Simone/do you happen to know who wrote "Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair"? I have only seen it credited as a 'traditional'/but I had an Irish grandmother who swore it was a song from her youth in the old country.

R.C. -- Nina Simone is one of my favorites! I love "Black Is the Color...", but I didn't hear it until I saw "Point of No Return", the American ripoff of "La Femme Nikita". I've been wondering who wrote it. (The soundtrack tape credits Nina as arranger, but no composer.) I'll be at the wreka stow TOMORROW to buy the Verve CD! Thanks!

Now, let's see if I can manage that e-mail link Mark explained... Well, I typed what he said to type/but when I checked the Preview Post, it wasn't there. (Maybe it only works on the "What are you doing" page.) Anyway...

Be sure you use \ not / .

maybe your brackets weren't curly enough!

If it's working, preview should show you...

if not, you can mail you-know-who.

That's about as much as one could ask for. The tune is surely Irish and a lot older than John Jacob Niles.

Thanks for the composer info. guys. My Gramdma will be doing a jig in her grave! But Mark's Mudcat link wouldn't load -- when I clicked on it, my mouse arrow turned into something I've never seen before & I crashed! Methinks it's time to sign off & go make some 'Ritas about now.

Hi, I'm interested to know more about BUT BLACK IS THE COLOR -- I'd like to use it as a main title song to a drama-short I'm editing. Any more on copyright? or original writer? time period? Thanks
