Repo Man Best movie you ever saw: Repo Man

By Perfidy on Wednesday, June 30, 1999 - 09:56 pm:

A tender treatment of the philosophy of the green Christmas Tree air freshener. "There's one in every car..."

By Margret on Wednesday, June 30, 1999 - 10:23 pm:

My favorite lines from that movie are:
-- "...eyes melt, skin explodes, everybody dead..."
-- "...let's get sushi, and not pay...."

This is to comedy what "Paris, Texas" is to tragedy.

By R.C. on Thursday, July 1, 1999 - 12:00 am:

I really liked that movie too. But for the life of me/I can't fathom why Emilio Extevez was so good in "Repo Man" & so lousy in every movie he's done since.

By Natas on Thursday, July 1, 1999 - 07:12 pm:

The best thing about the movie is that neither Nick Cage nor Michael Caine are in it.

By Rhiannon on Thursday, July 1, 1999 - 09:10 pm:

I do confess that my brain's been sluggish lately...but I saw "Paris, Texas" a few weeks ago and I can't understand what all the fuss was/is about. Neither the movie nor the music -- both of which have been raved and raved about -- impressed me very much.

What did I fail to see?

By Antigone on Wednesday, July 7, 1999 - 02:38 am:

I have never forgotten "Sometimes, people just explode..."

By Headphoney on Wednesday, February 23, 2000 - 01:40 pm:

that whole explanation about coincidences and the cosmic unconscious is outstanding (Plate of Shrimp). that's the kind of philosophy you can take with you when the film's done. One of the defining movies of the '80s.

By Bela on Friday, October 20, 2000 - 03:07 am:

Repo Man is the type of film that should be watched yearly. Any person can see on the second viewing of Repo Man that it was made for multiple viewing. The movie has many layers, if you will.

quite know why i like it so much.

also, being from the UK, we don't get Lorna Doones here. what the hell do they taste like? can someone let me know.

By M on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 - 12:31 pm:

Fuck you, Kevin laughs so Otto pushes him through the cans.

You gotta love gettin fired in a big way Otto.

This is one of my favorite scenes of the greatest movie of all time Repo Man. I love this movie.

A lot of guys like to sit around and watch their buddies fuck, I know I do.

By Pug on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 - 04:45 pm:

Repo Man----Yeah, that's definitely one for my desert island list....I love the cans of generic product ("food", "drink") and the uniformally blond feds----they're all generic, too!
And you've gotta love Otto, who in an age of lame catch phrases ("hey, bud, let's party!") never utters anything more endearing than "Fuck you, queer..."

By Gecko on Thursday, January 11, 2001 - 09:48 am:

A few years back, I caught a network broadcast of Repo Man, and the only thing better than the movie, was the editing for content.

"I'm gonna get you, you MELON FARMERS!"

I shit you not, Melon Farmers replaced another set of words with similar first letters.

By Me on Thursday, February 22, 2001 - 10:28 pm:

OH and how could I forget that extremely funny bad scatting attempt by the lounge band's lead singer. (I read that the band is the Circle Jerks.)

And when Otto's punk friend is dying in the store, and he blames society... and Otto calls his bluff "You're a white suburban punk like me..."

ok must leave Repo Man message board now.

"Vended food has all the nutrition you need. YOu got your Ho-Ho's, you got your ding-dongs, you got your DOritos..."

I couldn't have made that up in my head and can see where the makers of those products may have been pissy about it.

    Let's do crimes!

By Brother Ron on Saturday, April 24, 2004 - 07:50 am:

First time I saw it we had just done too many mushrooms. The movie paralleled the 'shroom experience - every thing went along fairly normal at first and then kept getting weirder. By the time we were too fucked up to follow the movie, the movie was too fucked up to follow. Otto together with the Rodriguez Brothers (for some reason?) having Uzi firefights in the hospital stairwell and flying green cars took a back seat to the priority of staring at the menace of the wolves on the velour wall-hanging above the fireplace who were actually running at me.

    Best movie of all time.

The dude above that says "almost every line is worth quoting" hits it dead on. We've been quoting it since '84 almost on a daily basis - it applies to everything. Most used quote "How come ya don't hang out with your friends no more?"

Everybody on this board has a different (mis)quote, and nobody prompted them to post one - need I say more? Holy shit there are others like us in the world!!!

As for the edited version with the "Mellon Farmer's" quotes - it's a totally different version with different scenes and completely different dialog in parts! In '86 we saw an ad for the movie on a cable channel we didn't get - it had Bud smashing phone booths with a bat. It took us years to figure out that was a different version that they show on A&E (which we didn't get at the time). I'm gonna edit the two versions together so that every bit of both is included (except maybe some of the the one-word profanity audio edits), which will mean some same scenes with different dialog back to back - it'll be the ultimate version, probably 3 hours of pure obnoxious bliss!!!!

By FatCat on Saturday, February 19, 2005 - 04:49 am:

The 1st time I saw this movie in my youth, I noticed
that when Otto repo'd the white 81 Cutlass in front of the old hispanic's man apt:

the Cutlass was a coupe with the 4 square headlight design.

Later on, the frontal shot on the freeway, its a
2 squared light Cutlass. I guess just as long as its a white Cutlass, who gives a crap.
Olds made a "Cutlass Supreme" coupe w/ the 4 headlight design and the regular Cutlass 2 door, 4 door and 4 door hatchback model with the 2 squared

If this was just for effect, Nesbith was a genius, if it was for shooting on a later date and didn't
have the same white Cutlass it was cheap.

Regardless, this movie is a cult classic and gets laughs everytime! If you don't think its funny than you'd better get a job as a frycook in Pacoima.

Someone in Texas is making a sequel called Waldo's Hawaiian
Holiday. I can't wait till it comes out. I heard about it at a party in
San Diego... Has anyone else heard about it?

By L. Guapo on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 07:18 pm:

Hi, yes it's true, the authorized sequel is being filmed in Dallas. "Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday" by Alex Cox follows the return of Otto (now a clone called Waldo) to Earth twenty years after he ascended to the heavens in the car. It's a great story and being filmed by a very independent film company in Dallas. You'll be hearing more about it this fall.

By droopy on Monday, July 11, 2005 - 10:34 pm:

wow, i thought you made that up. apparently, it' true. (bottom of page)

...Yet in a recent survey,99% of Sorabjis regarded v,as "The Devil"

By The cook on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 - 01:47 pm:

Actually, "Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday" has a Repo Man feel to it
but of course it is not a sequel.

Even if some websites say "Repo Man sequel, Quasi-sequel" etc.
but the producers of Waldo have no control over someone's
internet research and tying the films together like that!

    It's a totally different movie!

The only thing Otto & Waldo have in common is a name ending
in "o" and both are male. Waldo was born on Mars from the
    result of Martian science anyway.

Waldo has white hair, Otto does not.

    Flying cars?

Hey, Chitty Bang Bang flew, Speed Racers "Mach 5" kinda flys, a
1964 Malibu flew and now a rust bucket 1962 Chrysler Imperial
flys... Lot's of movies have flying cars.

If you liked Repo and haven't seen any of Mr Cox other films,
you should check them out! Hit and see whats
available out there. I recommend "Walker" (my personal
faveorite) but, it was so controversial you will probably have to
get it from a source outside of the U.S. "The Three Businessmen"
& "El Patrullero" are pretty cool as well.

    Get "laid" off - 2006

By Julius Seizure on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 - 02:50 am:

Actually...Alex Cox (director of 'Repo Man' and many other great movies) wrote 'Waldo's Hawaiian Holiday'. I just found out from here that they're actually filming it. I'm reading the script currently (which is available at, and it is most definitely a sequel to 'Repo Man', albeit with different names. The whole plot is that Otto (Waldo) comes back from Mars after 20 years, and everything has changed. (One funny scene involves him being baffled by a cordless phone). And...right now, I'll tell you, the funniest line in it so far:

"The perfect girl for me...would fuck all night, then at 3 a.m. turn into a pizza!"
