    zip is an acronym for "zone improvement plan", and it is an american version of a postal code. it's basically the same thing as a british postcode. and i don't thing british postcodes are hundred years old. i don't think any country had a postal code system (a full-fledged one) until the late 1950s.

    my grandmother worked for the post office - the stories she told....

    droopy,"zone improvement plan",,,I am now the only person outside the U.S. that understands it,but you must admit post codes are cool,I can put nothing more than a post code on a letter,and it still get to its destination.,does that work in the U.S. ?
