we use rosetta stone in the school district where i work. they love it. i tried to learn spanish by taking an "enrichment" course through the community college. it sucked. didn't learn a thing. my dad has learned to be conversationally fluent in four languages from listening to tapes/cds in his car. spanish should be required in schools, like english, since it's an american language now. |
i just picked up some spanish learning software. i can't remember which it is, but it isn't rosetta stone. it was about 1/5th the price of the rosetta stone software. i haven't started using it yet, so i can't tell you how it is. my company acquired a company based in buenos aires. i want to do everything i can to encourage them to send me to argentina occassionally. |
i thought your wife was from puerto rico. i seem to remember discussing mofongo with you, once. does she look like shakira? is she excited that they're making an american version of "betty la fea"? |
Yeah, I want to speak like that deep-voiced announcer on Telemundo! Actually, that's a good point though -- Rosetta Stone has both Latin American and Spain Spanish courses. Not sure which I should choose -- although they say that Colombian and Peruvian Spanish are the closest to European Spanish. I'm not sure if the difference between the two is as dramatic as between France French and Canadian French. Looks a bit pricey too. Also, I'm not sure if I want software, or CDs so I can listen in the car. Right droop, we had a conversation about mofongo -- she has a lot of Puerto Rican friends and has tried to make it before. Nope, she doesn't look like shakira, and haven't heard her mention betty la fea. |
after a relaxed pace of going through the starter cd's a month before i went on vacation, i was able to atleast converse with the spanish-only speaking cabbie to arrange for him to pick me up the next day and take me to the airport at a specified time.. i was so proud of myself.. |
