paranoia has been my home on the web for almost 3 years.

it's an unusal place, since it was pretty much the first "outpost" for free speech on the web.

but like kevin said, you can get free speech pretty much anywhere these days.

it's the first "members only" site i was ever a part of. maybe this only means anything to me since i could never a member of any goddam thing except for the literary magazine in high school.

at any rate, i've always wondered: who else is here? who else has paranoia.com accounts? i can't be the only one in this place.

    tap tap...

    hello

By ... on Monday, September 25, 2006 - 09:52 pm:

looks like spambots are circling again.

By jack on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 12:27 am:

is that a spambot or is it trace-spunky evaluating whether he can cover his tracks?

only curious in the most friendly way, dudes.

By bewilderdave. on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 12:51 am:

    wow.

    speechless.

By droopy on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 01:11 am:

    estoy confuso.

By spunky on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 08:50 am:

it was me, tyring to see if this was a restricted area. Some areas of the Sorabji BBS used to require a password to post, and I was messing around to see if this was one of them.

    No need for paranoia. Heh.
    That's a pun son.

By Dougie on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 11:38 am:

    Spunky, quit fucking around.

By ... on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 01:36 pm:

    there's never been a a restricted area.
there's a bug in the software that sometimes causes a password screen to show.
sometimes it happens if your browser is not sending an HTTP_REFERER variable, or if the software thinks you're not sending it. firewalls can sometimes strip that variable, or your browser just might not send it reliably. it happens at random and doesn't mean anything.

    paranoia.com was bought by Disney.

By Nate on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 02:48 pm:

    go!

By jack on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 08:32 pm:

    damn! no secret password-protected area?
there go the paranoid and conspiracy fantasies!

ah well. you know what is password protected? my pants! that's right, my pants! and, sorry, but the password is not
    numamumanuma.

By V on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 09:21 pm:

By jack on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - 09:34 pm:

By Antigone on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 03:35 pm:

Your brother's a band director, sem?

    That explains shitloads, man!

By semillama on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 03:44 pm:

    like what?

By Antigone on Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 03:59 am:

    Why, your infinite bitchin-ness.

My dad was a band director. I'm a lifelong band geek. My mom and step-dad just got back from, I kid you not, a week long band camp in Virginia.

    Band ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCKS.

By sarah on Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 10:55 pm:

you know, i don't think after all these years anyone has ever questioned why the comic sans font is the default.

i can't bear to think that mark *chose* comic sans....

By wisper on Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 04:58 am:

i have learned to love comic sans just because of this place.

By agatha on Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 01:58 pm:

I know, this is the only place it's acceptable. I am primarily a Garamond girl, myself.

By V on Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 02:05 pm:

jack,if my Dad was alive he would beat the shit out of your Dad.

By Dougie on Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 08:54 pm:

V, if your Dad was alive and saw the crap you post here, he'd beat the shit out of you, I daresay.

By Dr Pepper on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 12:07 am:

    LOL Dougie...

By Dr Pepper on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 01:05 am:

Sorry you guys, I couldn't get the picture to be downloaded.

By agatha on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 01:14 am:

Haven't we been through this before?

By dave. on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 01:17 am:

yeah, the doctor's been fucking with us all along.

By Dr Pepper on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 01:27 am:

Seriously, dave, I had trouble trying to sent a picture, I can't get this right!

By Spider on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 01:58 am:

When I post here from certain computers, the font is
something else. And then I breathe a sigh.

I hate comic sans. NOT EVEN THIS SITE can make me
    embrace it.

My current favorite font is this one:
    (the font in the logo).
That's the cleanest sans serif I've seen. It's similar to
    London
    Underground
, but some letters are widened. London
Underground (the caps especially) looks a little off to me.

By Dr Pepper on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 02:02 am:

Spider, any ideas on how I paste the picture for this sorabji message?

By Spider on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 02:04 am:

I take that back -- London Underground is a thing of beauty,
but I seriously dig the wide W in the IWM's logo.

I'm so excited because, in my Modern Publishing class,
we're going to spend one whole day next month talking
    about typography. Yeeee!

By Spider on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 02:05 am:

Sorry, I've tried to paste images before, too, and it doesn't work.

By Antigone on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 02:43 am:

You can't post a picture. Only Mark can.

There are several ways to do this yourself. Try this

By moonit on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 03:05 am:

I want that cat to match my Red Devil Dog (who is eight months old next week - where does the time go?)

By agatha on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 02:18 pm:

I think that first font is either Century Gothic or Antique Olive. I'm probably wrong, though. I'm a big fan of the all caps sen-serif look too, spider.

By wisper on Monday, October 2, 2006 - 11:55 pm:

Spider- the IWM logo is probably 'Humanist 521 Light', damn close anyway.
    i love the S.
If you don't have it and can't buy it or steal it, 'Gill Sans' is essentially the same thing. Though i don't remember if Gill Sans has a light version, and i'm away from my super font-filled computer.
It's also the BBC logo font.

Designed by Eric Gill, also designed 'Perpetua' (luv!) and a student of Edward Johnston.....and Edward Johnston created London Underground ;)

    type nerds in the hizouse

By Spider on Thursday, October 5, 2006 - 05:54 pm:

I've been away for a while.

Wisper, Humanist 521 Light looks pretty dang close to
what I want. I'll have to get it, somehow, someway. (I'd
explore my options now but I'm supposed to be writing
    a paper.)

(To illustrate how well my paper is coming along, I just
opened Word now to see if I have Gill Sans. Way to go, girl.
    I do, btw.)

Perpetua is another favorite of mine, because it's smaller
than the others and therefore useful when printing off huge
articles. It's also pretty plain, as serif fonts go. I like plain.

I wonder what the font this is that I see in this window. This
    is pretty nice, too.
