haven't got my ticket yet, but i've got a ride, i've promised half a dozen friends and thus i'm going.

    hol-lee shit.

i'm gonna be driving with a truck full of crazy boys (whom i barely know except for one who i have a bit of a crush on because he's a stiltwalker but i don't know him al all, really) for two days to get to a week-long event in the desert.

i've never been to nevada. i've never been in stereotypical desert either, just the scrubby high desert in eastern oregon. i've never gone on a road trip unless it was sprockettes, with my parents, with a band or alone.

    this is new.

has anyone been to burning man? how should i prepare myself?

By heather on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 11:41 pm:

my friends have an entire spreadsheet of stuff they take and tupperware bins full of stuff specifically for burningman. i have other friends that go with nothing but a bag of chips and a sarong and rely on the kindness of strangers.

    baby wipes, sunscreen and mosturizer
very warm clothes for night time
    lots of water
    ramen noodles

some people get sick from the altitude so they recommend taking it easy the first day. [we stopped and spent the night in reno.]

awesome! i'll be with the zoobomb/pirate mail crew... i think there might be some mini (as in just four of us) sprockettes action.

burning man's piano sculture and the baseball bats, and derek pownazak in the fray dot com were instrumental in getting me to light the match and then poof! I found Mark's little playground here after visiting Sarah's merygoround in Hawaii, god so long ago. I am so pyronphobic, living in a log house in the middle of the woods.

As my granny said, be careful, have fun, watch out for sinkholes.

By heather on Friday, June 16, 2006 - 09:59 am:

i read that as skinholes, watch out for those, too

By Lexicogographicdanielssss on Friday, June 16, 2006 - 11:16 pm:

architectually speaking, that would be correct either way but my granny said sinkholes.
However, I am struck by the "pyronphonic" word.
I finally found out what Wallace Stevens meant by "concupiscent curds" the other day.

By lapis on Saturday, June 17, 2006 - 01:00 am:

i think i've seen photographs of the piano sculpture.

so now i'm metaing the dead letter camp.

By Daniel ssss on Sunday, June 18, 2006 - 12:21 am:

Pez, I think the piano conflagration was the best yet, as I wax patriotic... and the sounds of piano strings bursting in air, the baseball bats that were there, gave truth to the light that the pianos were burning...

or so it went. you be careful there girl. May be it was pyrophonic I was searching for...

I Be Coming to Portland likely in the winter to visit son and other friends there. Other older son is going to teach in former East Germany for a year before resuming his grad work in the states. He is in japan now for the summer.

I never get to go anywhere but Minneapolis next week and kentucky in September.

By lapis on Sunday, June 18, 2006 - 09:13 am:

    ise careful, mostly. not always.

you be coming to portland? well then.

delicately, i have begun planting the seed which will grow the idea of us moving (back) to hawaii.

By Daniel ssss on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 09:53 am:

Happy for you. If you move to the island, can we all come to visit? When you come to StL sometime, would love to host a Sarah and Senor fest.

By sarah on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 10:40 am:

    gracias!

si, anyone can come visit any time. austin is a fun place to visit, and the queen bed in our guest room is more comfortable than the bed we sleep on.

also, the guest room is kept free of dogs. and there are heavy curtains on the window for sleeping in. and a tv with cable and remote.

like a hotel, only without porn on demand.
