Antigone, I think this site might interest you.

My parents used to have a book called "The Garden of Eloquence," by William Espy, that took all the terms in this list and made a great encyclopedia. For each term, there would be a cute story about animals in a garden that utlized the term in question, followed by several examples from literature. It's a book that would delight linguists and writers alike.

That is so cool. It is so nice to know other word geeks.

Sorry, I didn't mean to exclude you! :)

...I didn't think you did...if you'd said "The Garden of Eloquence -- for Antigone -- but not Kazoo, she must never come to this thread ever"

Well, then I might have felt excluded. When I taught women's lit at OSU, I also had to give them writing lessons and I used to include literary terms as part of that...I used to introduce myself as the irony police and told them that if they only learned two things in my class one of them had to be my lecture on irony.

The other is my lecture on interpreting resistence in women's literature which is something else entirely.

I hope you used my song as a prime example of irony in your lectures. Kids learn their lessons well using popular culture you know. Isn't that ironic?

It's like having 10,000 puppies when all you've got is Meow Mix,
It's like meeting the man of my dreams and then finding out he's not into chicks
And isn't it ironic...don't you think?

How long were you at OSU, kazoo? I grew up in Arlington, about a mile from campus.

By kazoo on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 03:24 pm:

Just under two years. September 2000-June 2002. Before that I lived in Boston working for an academic institution. Before that, I was in Syracuse, attending.

    I'm on a life-long U.S. tour of academia.

This makes my dreams of world domination through auto-generation of poetry one step closer to reality...
