There is a website where you can type in a sample of
your writing and it will tell you what famous writer
    you write like.

    http://iwl.me/

    My results were "Dr. Seuss."

I pasted in a paragraph of my letter of application to a library leadership program this summer.

It told me I wrote like Dan Brown.

I am wounded, but undeterred; this is just proof I need that program.

I experimented with writing from a couple of different sources, and got David Foster Wallace, H.P. Lovecraft, Chuck Palahniuk, and Stephen King.

    Interesting.

By Spider on Monday, April 22, 2013 - 10:06 pm:

Yeah, I pasted in some of my dream write-ups from this place, and it told me David Foster Wallace and Ursula K. LeGuin. But I don't want to insult those writers with the comparison because I just write in a crappy talking-out-loud style here.

Today was a weird day because there were at least five times when I noticed I was talking and sounding exactly like my mother.

My mother had a beautiful speaking voice (and singing voice). I would love to sound just like her.

Once, the two of us were having lunch at a restaurant with my grandfather and some other family member (cousin?), and while I had my eyes on the menu, the waitress asked someone at the table if they did voice-over work. I thought she was talking to my mother, so I didn't look up, and then my mom nudged me -- the waitress had been talking to me! I said no, and she said I had a pretty voice and should definitely look into that line of work, and my first thought was that she was hitting on me. And then I just about melted with flattery from the lovely compliment. People have complimented me on my voice before but never when my mother was right there for comparison.

Maybe that's one of the reasons it was so hard for me to be with her as she died, when her tumors had robbed her of speech, and I knew I had lost my chance to ever hear her speak to me again. She sounded like she was singing when she spoke.

Or multi-talented,you see the cup as neither half
full nor half empty but that there's room for more
    wine. I think that's a good thing.

By Antigone on Thursday, May 16, 2013 - 01:21 am:

How about we just compromise with multi-personality?

By J on Thursday, May 16, 2013 - 04:50 pm:

    I'll drink to that!

I read an article about this site. it's called the Hemingway app.
it's supposed to help tighten up one's writing. i put in a
paragraph of my own and the only criticism was that one
sentence was "hard to read". a computer doesn't understand
that everything i say is crap, but it can tell when i string two
    independent clauses together.

By droopy on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 - 02:40 am:

    home? where are you now?

i seem to have healed, finally, my arm and shoulder still ache a
little, but i was able to roll across town for a bottle of wine.

found out today there's a distillery in fort worth that makes
    black-eyed pea based vodka.

By la on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 - 04:42 pm:

    Home home on the range.
Home is where the heart is.
I feel so broke up, I wanna go home.
Home is where you hang your hat.
    There's no place like home.
    E.T. phone home.
Swing low, sweet chariot, coming forth to carry me
    home.
Home is the loneliest number that you'll ever do.

    Glad you're doing better, droop.

By la on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 - 04:44 pm:

    That entry got James Joyce.

By The Watcher on Thursday, March 6, 2014 - 05:18 am:
