Candy Exchange

sorabji.com: Are there any news?: Candy Exchange
THIS IS A READ-ONLY ARCHIVE FROM THE SORABJI.COM MESSAGE BOARDS (1995-2016).

By platypus on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 - 08:25 pm:

Can we get a candy exchange status update?

I also just remembered today that I included no notes of explanation or anything to indicate which candy I sent out, so, if it says "Mendocino Chocolate Company" on it, it's from platypus.

By kazu on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 - 08:49 pm:

I sent ours. I hope it got there.

There was no explanation, but the candy is
    pretty self-explanatory.

By platypus on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 - 10:28 pm:

Is your candy in the shape of kazoos?

By agatha on Thursday, November 15, 2007 - 12:22 am:

I was waiting until I had time to make the chocoblocks that Sarah and Platy liked, but maybe I'll just go ahead and send it without. Sorry, girls! Maybe I'll send those separately.

By Antigone on Thursday, November 15, 2007 - 03:30 pm:

I have packages from sarah and platypus. No others.

By kazu on Thursday, November 15, 2007 - 04:00 pm:

What! I sent ours last week.

    Well, so much for that.

By platypus on Thursday, November 15, 2007 - 06:09 pm:

Holidays always give the post office an excuse to be a week late with everything, so I wouldn't worry just yet, kazu.

By Dr Pepper on Friday, November 16, 2007 - 05:38 am:

Oh, that remind me to do Christmas shopping early!!! I hated for having a anxiety for being in a crowded place. Let see, here is the list that I wanted to buy ppl a chistmas present. No, I do not want a christmas present. thank you.

By semillama on Friday, November 16, 2007 - 02:42 pm:

I just figured out that Dr. Pepper talks like Miguel from Fat Chicks in Party Hats (a site so offensive, it's funny).

By Dr Pepper on Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 03:49 am:

    Hmmmmm......

By V on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 12:08 am:

,,,,,how come you kids pig out so much?.....................bet most of you weigh in at 45 stone minimum....now v is a trim 10 stone...how come most Sorabjis are so damn fat?????

By Dr Pepper on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 05:05 pm:

Semillama, I understand on what you mean about " miguel from fat chick in party hats". No hard feeling.......

By kazu on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 03:46 pm:

Our candy was returned to us.

By Antigone on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 08:38 pm:

Good, 'cause it never got to me. :)

    What was the problem?

By agatha on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 11:01 pm:

Waaah! Mine's in the mail tomorrow.

By platypus on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 01:10 am:

Maybe your postman has it out for you.

    I know mine does.

By Antigone on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 02:50 am:

Does he always ring twice? Is he Kevin Costner?

By platypus on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 04:23 am:

Usually he leaves my packages with the neighbors, who may or may not pass them on to me, depending on their mood. That's why I have things sent to my PO box now, because it's hard to deliver mail to the wrong PO box.

By agatha on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 02:44 pm:

My package is sitting on the front porch waiting for pickup. Should be trudging towards Texas by mid-day. I'm hoping everything isn't totally screwed and broken and wet when it gets there.

By sarah on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 02:35 am:

oh my god, ada is more and more beautiful with each photo i see.

how is it going? how's M doing?

i cry every day, but only every other day because my ass is so fat. the other days i cry because this new job is so hard.

By sarah on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 02:36 am:

i posted that in the wrong thread.

    need sleep.

By moonit on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 06:23 am:

My package is next to me. Its going to be heavy. I will take it tomorrow. I suck. I always let the candy team down by being last.

By heather on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 03:15 pm:

    you're not last

    i keep forgetting

    i was working too much
i will write it on my hand

By semillama on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 03:51 pm:

you're not last, we still have to resend ours.

By moonit on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 12:27 am:

Yes but mine takes a long time to travel the globe. The box was too big and I couldn't fit it in my ridiculously large laptop bag this morning, so I will try and post it tomorrow, but if not Saturday for sure :) I went a bit retro this time round.

By moonit on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 12:27 am:

    Well retro kiwi really.

By platypus on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 01:31 am:

    Retro kiwi? I'm intrigued.

By agatha on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 03:10 pm:

Ditto! My box was super full and weighed 13 pounds. Booyah!

By agatha on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 03:11 pm:

By the way, Sara, I know this is the wrong thread, but I cried every day for a long long time. Make sure that you have people to talk to. Have you talked to your birth class teacher at all?

By sarah on Sunday, December 2, 2007 - 12:12 am:

no, i haven't talked to the instructor. i don't think i have post pardum depression. i've stopped crying already, and i don't feel depressed.

if anything remains, it's mostly shock over what a huge and immediate change it is.

how hard it is to get out of the house.

how the fact that none of my clothes fit makes it even harder to want to get out of the house.

how it'll be forever until i can lose the weight since i can only get to the gym one day a week at best.

how i can't just do whatever i want anymore.

again, i'm not saying it's not all worth it. i love my baby and love being a mommy, just saying it's really hard right now. i know it won't be difficult like this forever.

    i'm fine.

i'll be better when i have candy!

By Antigone on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - 03:57 pm:

    Got agatha's candy.

By heather on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - 09:33 pm:

going to the post office in a bit.

    bitches.

it's weird, when i shop it feels like so much - but separated it feels a bit weak.

oh well, it's chocolate and/or mostly organic so you will love it. LOVE IT.

or hate it. what do i know.

By platypus on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - 11:22 pm:

Hey, I'll take quality over quantity any day, Heather. Although it does feel like you're buying a lot of candy when you pick up goods for eight.

By kazu on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 - 12:08 am:

We will be resending ours tomorrow.

By heather on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 06:38 pm:

    i lied

i just sent it today because the first time the very full post office declared that they were closed and wouldn't let me get in line.

By agatha on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - 12:12 am:

It's okay, Heather. I don't care when I get it- it adds to the surprise! I opted for mostly trashy candies this time around for the sake of variety. None of mine are even remotely organic. I did make some of those fruit and nut blocks like last time, but you'll have to sit tight to see what the rest of it is.

By platypus on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - 02:52 am:

Yay fruit and nut blocks! And trashy candy. I think there's going to be a lot of fun stuff this time around.

By Antigone on Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 01:53 am:

    All candy in except moonit's.

By agatha on Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 05:33 pm:

Hooray! There is a slight possibility of Christmas or New Year's candy!

By platypus on Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 09:05 pm:

    Candycandycandycandycandycandycandycandycandycandycandy!

By agatha on Saturday, December 22, 2007 - 03:24 am:

MOONIE, did you send your CAN-DAY?

By moonit on Sunday, December 23, 2007 - 11:27 pm:

crap. I sent my candy ages ago. What if my candy is lost? what if my candy has been stolen?

By agatha on Monday, December 24, 2007 - 03:57 pm:

I'll bet it's not lost. It's probably just taking a long time because of the season and the long distance it's going. I'm excited that you sent it!

By Antigone on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 06:22 pm:

    Still no moonit package.

At what point should I send out stuff anyway?

By agatha on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 04:34 am:

Moonit, do you have any way to track your package?

By Antigone on Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 01:56 am:

No reply from moonit in a week and I send it all out.

    I'M SERIOUS.

By agatha on Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 03:33 am:

I support your decision. I'll send her some candy after the fact, or something.

By platypus on Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 03:59 am:

That sounds reasonable to me. I'm hoping that mine is doing ok, I should have told you to stick it in the fridge.

By Antigone on Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 04:13 am:

It's been inside in the AC this whole time. Should be fine, btu I don't want to open and check until I'm ready to send.

By sarah on Friday, January 11, 2008 - 03:34 pm:

    i like cold beverages

    i like cold beverages

    i like cold beverages

    uh huh

i vote to wait just a bit longer for moonit's candy to get there or at least hear from her.

i sent her some candy not too long ago and it took a long time to get there...

By jack-pepper and special sauce on Friday, January 11, 2008 - 10:33 pm:

stick it in the fridge, stick it in the fridge, stick it in the fridge, stick it in the fridge!

    i like cold beverage, yeah!

By Dr Pepper on Friday, January 11, 2008 - 11:06 pm:

I have nothing to do with jack, he is an odd person.

By jack on Saturday, January 12, 2008 - 01:12 am:

just stop the negativity, dr. jack-pepper is a friend to all.

    don't you like cold beverage?!

    enjoy a cold beverage, yeah!

By Dr Pepper on Saturday, January 12, 2008 - 04:06 pm:

No jack, you are the one who made a comment about my handle name.

By agent jack pepper on Saturday, January 12, 2008 - 04:41 pm:

dr has nothing to do with jack. he is an odd person. a odd person. an odd person. a odd person...

By agatha on Sunday, January 27, 2008 - 07:57 pm:

I would say at this point...
    SEND CANDAY!

By platypus on Sunday, January 27, 2008 - 09:53 pm:

    I second the motion.

By Antigone on Sunday, January 27, 2008 - 10:19 pm:

    Done.

By platypus on Monday, January 28, 2008 - 01:02 am:

Hooray! Time to haunt the post office.

By sarah on Monday, January 28, 2008 - 01:39 am:

fuck. and i'm trying to lose baby weight.

    but, then again... YAY CANDY!

By Antigone on Monday, January 28, 2008 - 03:18 am:

OK, I mean "Done" as in "I'm gonna do it now..." not like "It's DONE" done.

By agatha on Monday, January 28, 2008 - 03:51 am:

I knew what you meant, Tiggy. Thanks for coordinating all of this. I wonder if moonit's okay? YO MOONIT, YOU OKAY?

By platypus on Monday, January 28, 2008 - 01:10 pm:

Well, our post office gets things supernaturally fast sometimes, so I think I will still stalk them. I'm excited for candytime.

By semillama on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 02:36 pm:

    yay! candy!

My boss brought in some chinese candy for chinese new year - jelly straws. Basically, they are tubes of jelly. You eat them by cutting off the top of the plastic wrapper and squeezing the jelly out into your mouth. It's much weirder to experience than I described

By sarah on Saturday, February 2, 2008 - 02:29 pm:

oh don't worry. that sounds really weird. almost disturbing.

By Dr Pepper on Saturday, February 2, 2008 - 09:58 pm:

semillama, chinese candy? from china? this candy may be toxic.....

By J on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 05:53 am:

Moonit,f*ck the candy, don't worry, come back please.

By agatha on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 12:51 pm:

Yeah, what J says. Speaking of which... where's the candy? Not that I have any right to ask with the mailart. Shit, did I just bring that up again?

By Antigone on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 01:28 pm:

On it's way to evertone but Sarah and Heather. Got waylaid this
weekend and I'll be able to send those out tonight or tomorrow.

By Nate on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 01:37 pm:

    evertone? perfecting circular-breathing?

By platypus on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 05:05 pm:

    CANDY IS HERE!

And oh, my god, does it look good. I wolfed down the Dolphin Natural Chocolate immediately, and my fridge is packed to the gills with candy now. A candy exchange worth waiting for, for sure.

By Nate on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 07:54 pm:

WHY DON NO ONE NEVER EVER SEND ME NO FUCKING CANDY GODDAMNIT?

By Nate on Monday, April 14, 2008 - 07:55 pm:

    NUNCA JAMAS MOTHERFUCKER!!! NUNCA JAMAS!!

By semillama on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 12:57 pm:

We got our package, but since Kazu won't be back until tomorrow from her trip, I haven't opened it yet. Are the contents ok at room temp?

By heather on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 01:09 pm:

i am confused and saddened by the "everyone but heather and sarah"

but it is probably best that i not get it this week

By sarah on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 02:32 pm:

    tig lost our mailing addresses.

and for some reason now i'm thinking that he doesn't have your correct email address. because he emailed me last week to get my mailing address.

    is your middle name ariana?

By Antigone on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 02:34 pm:

I'm sending it in a few hours. Should I delay?

By Antigone on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 02:37 pm:

Ya, room temp is fine, sem.

By heather on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 02:52 pm:

    no delay required

By Nate on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 04:27 pm:

state this ache as the final break
tender situation - create a good illusion
feel the grip of your slavation
this is indeed a tender situation
make a move man state your case
taste the waste man taste the waste
what is your place in my glorification
yeah this is really a tender situation

get off the pot man shake and bake
taste the waste boy taste the waste
pump it up or stray from that old station
yeah dude this is really a tender situation

    (ween)

By Antigone on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 08:00 pm:

    Final candy is away...

By sarah on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 11:15 pm:

    got my candy today!

it came in a HUGE box.

with heather's name and mailing address on it...

haven't had time to sift through everything yet, but thanks everyone! thanks tig!

By Antigone on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 01:10 am:

Oh, fer fuck's sake. The UPS gal switched the fuckin' labels.

Heather, I guess that means you'll be getting sarah's mini package back...

    Oooooooooops...

By heather on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 01:24 am:

    le sigh

By sarah on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 10:36 am:

    no big deal, Tig.

heather, i haven't eaten any candy yet.

want me to box it back up and send it to you?

By heather on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 02:25 pm:

    i don't know!

seems like trouble and expense for little return unless there is something super special. if/when i get your packet from me maybe i will send that.

By sarah on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 02:38 pm:

i don't know. could work out to your advantage, since tig described my intended candy package as MINI.

the box i got with your name on it is ENORMOUS!

let me know when you get your (my?) package of candy...

By semillama on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 02:59 pm:

We got the candy! It's a lot more than I thought. We are approaching it with caution so as to make it last and not to get sick eating tons of candy. There's some weird stuff in there...

By heather on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 03:01 pm:

i think by mini he means just the part that i packaged for you within the bigger box. just my guess.

By Antigone on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 04:59 pm:

    Yes, that was my meaning.

By sarah on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 06:26 pm:

oh, okay. how nice of you.

well, whatever you want to do. we can keep our boxes or swap.

or! i could send you the candy from my box that i contributed (there's a lot of my own candy in the box i got), and you could mail me my mini package.

but, you know, either way, i'm good.

    your call.

By Antigone on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 10:28 pm:

Ya, I intentionally did NOT return candy to folks, so ya'll will get
a lot of your own stuff.

By agatha on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 11:28 pm:

I'm at a library conference, so I can't talk long, but I wanted you all to know how much I love you and your candy. I'll expound more later when I'm reunited with it at my home, assuming Dave and Cleo didn't eat it all. I threatened them with bodily harm, but my threats have little impact generally so we shall see.

    xoxo-
    kelsey

By sarah on Thursday, April 17, 2008 - 11:41 pm:

due to your ever delightful chocolate and fruit/nut bars, i am having a hard time waiting to hear from heather.

    but i'm doing it.

i need to go on weight watchers or something. i'm huge and disgusting. shit, don't let get me started.

By platypus on Friday, April 18, 2008 - 12:38 am:

Yeah, I have been grubbin' on the fruit and nuts bars pretty hardcore while watching obscene amounts of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They are delicious. Like babies.

By Nate on Friday, April 18, 2008 - 10:46 am:

    fruit and nut.

By semillama on Friday, April 18, 2008 - 02:22 pm:

Platypus, we've been watching obscene amounts of Buffy, too. We've been watching every episode in order starting with Season one. We're in Season 6 right now. We've been interspersing Buffy with episodes of Deadwood.

By Nate on Friday, April 18, 2008 - 06:04 pm:

    FRUIT AND FUCKING NUT.

By Antigone on Friday, April 18, 2008 - 10:37 pm:

Do you want some candy, Nate?

By Nate on Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 07:21 pm:

i think i just want attention.

we should do an ice cream exchange.

By Antigone on Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 09:14 pm:

By Dr Pepper on Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 11:41 pm:

Nate, sending ice cream over the mail? your kidding? By the time when you get the package, I am sure the wrapping would be crusted and sticky.

By platypus on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 01:33 am:

If you took it straight out of a blast freezer, packed it in dry ice, and sent it next day air, maybe...I do like ice cream.

By droopy on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 01:53 am:

booze would be so much easier to send than ice cream. why the fuck haven't we done a booze exchange? i would do a fucking booze exchange.

    i do like booze.

By platypus on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 10:50 am:

A booze exchange would be pretty awesome, although it could get pricey...

By Nate on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 11:16 am:

i think a booze exchange would be illegal.

i was kidding about the ice cream exchange.

    saliva exchange?

By Antigone on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 01:49 pm:

Hell, we exchange bile all the time...

By Dr Pepper on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 01:50 pm:

    saliva exchange? uggggh!

By platypus on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 02:13 pm:

Would a booze exchange be illegal? I think it varies state by state? It's supposed to be easier to ship directly from the winery/distillery, but I guess it would be pretty cost-prohibitive and a pain in the ass to ship each bottle individually. I'm all about figuring it out, though, because it would be pretty awesome.

Maybe you guys could have a baby exchange, seeing as how so many Sorabjites have kids these days!

By agatha on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 05:23 pm:

Favorite candy thus far: strange looking roundish chocolate things with peanut butter/butterfinger flavorited beige insides. Came in a pack of three. Yum, but provided major twinges of pain in my bum teeth.

PS- I'm glad y'all liked the fruit and nut things. I was wondering if they would be any good anymore when you all got them, since they are verging on old at this point.

By agatha on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 05:24 pm:

PPS- Nate, if you play next time, you won't need to whine about not getting any candy. Just sayin'.

By agatha on Monday, April 21, 2008 - 05:26 pm:

PPPS- we could probably get away with an alcohol exchange if we bought airplane bottles and packaged them strategically.

By agatha on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 01:00 am:

PPPPS- why does nobody ever post after me? I am a threadkiller! Did I scare you all with too many PS's?

By platypus on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 11:07 am:

Did the candy I sent turn out ok after the long hiatus, or did it get funkified?

By kazu on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 11:07 am:

Can we do a cat exchange?

By semillama on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 12:03 pm:

How about a dog exchange as well?

By sarah on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 02:48 pm:

    dog exchange! yes!

which candy did you send, platypus?

i still have not delved into my candy.

but probably will no later than next week.

By platypus on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 04:20 pm:

I sent all the stuff from the Mendocino Chocolate Company, and I actually sent a special treat for you, Sarah, but I guess Heather has it now. I can't even remember what, exactly, I sent. I remember truffles, and the sweet fake oreos they make. And many some Halloween candy?

By sarah on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 04:29 pm:

    dammit.

    and thanks!

    i'll look tonight and see.

hey i have an idea. i'll go to aerobics class, then come home and research the box of candy!

By Nate on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 06:42 pm:

everyone sends special treats to sarah.

    candy politics.

By patrick on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 07:57 pm:

its illegal to ship booze cross state lines in some states. i know for fact anyone in NC would be shit outta luck. probably GA to know how the do shit down there.

By heather on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 10:25 pm:

    box!

there is a chocolate card that i assume is for sarah. i will send that on to you with other things.

nice. i just got back from chicago and too many people and i am fried and this box is very fun. red icicles! ziploc containers! crazy! hey, i always wanted to know what chick-o-stick is.

By agatha on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 11:35 pm:

I sent the chick-o-stick! Hooray. They are strange. That was my Idaho Spud-like contribution this time around.

By Antigone on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 11:37 pm:

    Them fake oreos were guuud.

Oh, and there's more on the way soon, as a "sorry" gift for having taken so long.

Red icicles? I didn't get any red icicles. But I liked the berry thingies. They were crunchy and gooey, all at once. Oh, and the block of chocolate, which I have been gnawing on. It hurts my teeth, but it's so very fun.

Semillama and Sarah, I would love to exchange these dogs, however, I needed to get rid of my brother's dogs, they have been annoying me quite lately......

We devoured the gummy bears and really like the Mendocino stuff. I also like the Jones Soda candies as well.

I was leery of the chickosticks at first, but I tried them and decided I liked them. We liked the chocolate coffee lentils as well. Still have a bunch to go through.

    Chocolate coffee lentils?

I liked the lego blocks. Not to eat, but to play with. I haven't eaten any yet because I have been too busy building things with them.

i think i may have sent the chocolate coffee lentils.

i don't think they are actually lentils, just lentil-shaped.

heather, i will mail you some of the candy from my box too - particularly the stuff i bought.

except that senor has eaten all but one of the rasperry chocolate ring.

he always finds where i hide the candy! grrr

    jones soda candy!?

i am possibly ashamed to say that i loved the chick-o-stick and happily they do not have transfats. i have no idea of the radioactive or other poisons that might be involved.

i need a break from eating.

    something has gone horribly wrong.

candy seems to be making me nauseated. consistently, over time.

Hey mom, my boys' mother became terribly allergic gut-wise to broccoli in any form after their births. I'd take a problem with broccoli over candy any day. It's okay not to send me candy cuz I can't eat it any more. No nuts, no chocolate, no salt, no fat, no leafy or seedy thing.

I have a new juicer though.

Sorabji e-mail no longer works, just saw CZ a few weeks ago she looked wonderful.I'm worried sick about her,but I can't gossip. She's trying to make a major change though.
I'm good, was pretty depressed after Brucifer passed away and so was CZ,but I've made my peace.
He never paid taxes,so he would have never got any benefits from s.s. or disabilty,he would have been fecked,so I think he just wanted to go.He loved Joni Mitchell and the line "leave them laughig when you go" will always remind me of him.
