Alvin's feeling restless in cell block H
A carton of smokes for 10 minutes of pleasure
Saying, If I cannot have you, nobody will
    Nobody will, nobody
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no

Alvin's feeling randy and ready to roll
Shoving a shiv between his shoulders
Saying, If I cannot have you, nobody will
    Nobody will, nobody
NO, no, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no

    I shaved my ass
    Uh! Uh! Uh! Uh!

Here, boy, I've got no hair on my ass
I've got no hair on my cock
    I shaved my whole body
How do you like that, boy?
How do you like that, boy?
    Hey, come here!
    Hey! Come here!

Alvin's feeling randy and ready to roll
Shoving a shiv between his shoulders
Saying, If I cannot have you, nobody will
    Nobody will, nobody

Yes! Yes! They're one of my favorite bands! Oh, I'm so psyched someone else likes them! Apparently, _everyone_ loves them, but I have never actually met anyone who will admit it.

"Goat" was my first album of theirs that I ever heard. I have a very special place in my heart for "Karpis" (especially the "I shaved my ass, uh!" part) but "Monkey Trick" was the song that sucked me in and made me swear allegiance to the altar of godliness that is Duane Denison. I didn't even know guitars could sound like that: so edgy and piercing, like red-hot needles. And "Mouthbreather" was the song that turned me onto Slint (since it's about Britt Walford), and Slint is another band that's next to God.

This is the best website for great pictures of the band (check out the "grassy knoll" pictures taken in front of the National Cathedral in DC! There they are truly next to God).

Oh, to get to the aforementioned grassy knoll shots, go to "pictures of the band" and then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page.

Hey, what do you think of Blue?

By Spider on Thursday, April 1, 1999 - 12:09 am:

Well, *cough*...I think if it didn't have "The Jesus Lizard" in big letters on the front, I would have liked it better. Meaning, it was all right on its own, but rather a disappointment coming from them, in a weird way. I think I (and most of their fans, if I may speak for them/us) have come to expect a certain kind of sound from them and so when they changed, we all kind of went "huh? HEY! What gives?!" WHich is not to say that it is a bad album. It has some really neat moments (e.g. that grinding guitar /sitar at the beginning of "Eucalyptus"), and is interesting just for the fact that David Yow (madman genius extraordinaire) actually sings. You have to commend them for trying to expand their range of sound. I can see if you don't like it, but I think people who hate it (or claim to hate it) across the board really haven't given it a chance and/or are just posturing.

Also, Jim Kimball: I love him, think he's a _great_ drummer in JL and DK3 and Firewater, but have you noticed that since Mac left things have been kind of going down hill? Kind of like part of the chemical equation is missing?

By Killer McHann on Thursday, April 1, 1999 - 04:22 pm:

Yeah, i think so too. But you know that Jim left, right?

and firewater...what a dammed good band. Tod A. is the man, baby.

By Spider on Monday, April 5, 1999 - 12:38 am:

I heard that Jim left to work on DK3 more. Do you know who his replacement is? (Can't seem to get my hands on that info.)

Mac is in another band: PW Long's Reelfoot. Oh, they're so good! Like JSBX, but more organic, more raw. Mac sings backup in it, and he's good, too. He has a really smooth voice. And, for the record, he's really cute. ;)
ANYWAY, yes, Tod Ashley IS the man. No one writes better lyrics. (My favorite, from CSC, "and the clouds outside your bedroom windowpane resemble crippled children limping slowly across the sky").
